About this Test Systems Engineer role at Dexmate
About Dexmate
Dexmate is building the foundation for physical AI — combining a new generation of robots with a universal Physical AI OS, making robots as easy to build and deploy as software. Today, robotics is fragmented, slow, and closed: most builders are forced to reinvent the same stack again and again, and most ideas never make it past the prototype stage. We exist to change that. Our mission is to democratize robotics by lowering the barrier to entry, delivering a plug-and-play platform for developers, researchers, and enterprises, and cultivating an open ecosystem that accelerates the evolution of physical AI.
If you want to help shape the next layer of human capability — and believe the future of robotics should be built together, not in isolation — we'd love to build it with you.
The Role
We are looking for Test Systems Engineers to build the machines that test our robots and to keep our new test lab running. You will design automated test rigs, data logging, and dashboards so durability tests can run around the clock, and you will run whole-robot functional and working-condition tests that reflect how customers actually use our robots. You are the force multiplier: the more you automate, the more the team can test.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain automated test stations and rigs combining mechanical fixtures, motors, sensors, PLCs or microcontrollers, and software
Build data acquisition and logging systems, and dashboards that track test status and results across all test stations
Automate long-duration durability and duty-cycle tests to run unattended overnight and on weekends, with alerts and automatic shutdown on failure — scaling to dozens of modules on test in parallel
Qualify every test station for accuracy, repeatability, and stability before its data is trusted
Design simple interface boards and harnesses for test setups, and work with equipment suppliers on custom stations
Run whole-robot functional tests: mobility, manipulation, payload, terrain, and continuous operation
Develop and run working-condition tests based on real customer scenarios and environments
Assemble, configure, and prepare robots and subsystems for testing
Keep the lab running: equipment setup and calibration, spare parts and inventory, and lab safety (battery handling, robot motion safety zones)
Support mechanical and electrical test engineers in executing their test plans
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
3+ years building test equipment, automation, or robotic systems
Proficiency in Python for automation and data handling, and comfort with Linux command line
Hands-on experience with sensors, motors, and DAQ or PLC systems
Comfortable with mechanical assembly, wiring, and basic fabrication
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and software
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ROS/ROS 2 or robot middleware
Experience building test dashboards and databases
Background in robotics competitions, makerspaces, or building robots end-to-end
Experience running a hardware lab, including equipment calibration and safety programs
