Position Summary: 

IEM is currently seeking a Test Supervisor for our San Antonio, TX and will report into the VP of Quality & Reliability. This role leads daily test operations across all product lines, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of electrical testing. The Test Supervisor manages test technicians, drives throughput, and ensures product performance through troubleshooting and process control. This position also provides technical leadership by supporting test development, failure analysis, and continuous improvement across the test organization.

This position will be based temporarily in NE San Antonio while our new manufacturing plant is coming online. Our permanent location is approximately 25 minutes away at Brooks, 7515 Inner Circle Dr., San Antonio, 78235. The position is also 100% in-office and does not offer remote work.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead daily activities of Test Technicians across specific product lines within the site.
  • Align test execution with production schedules and site priorities to maintain flow and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Oversee all electrical testing activities including Hi-Pot, Megger, functional testing, relay testing, current injection, and system validation.
  • Drive troubleshooting of wiring errors, control logic issues, and component failures to minimize downtime.
  • Support development and refinement of test procedures, work instructions, and standard processes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to resolve test failures, design gaps, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Review and validate test data, logs, and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support Factory Witness Testing (FWT) by coordinating execution, providing technical explanations, and addressing customer questions.
  • Monitor and drive performance metrics including first pass yield, test throughput, downtime, and rework.
  • Ensure all testing is performed in compliance with UL standards, customer requirements, and safety policies.
  • Maintain test equipment readiness, including calibration, functionality, and safe operation.
  • Lead root cause investigations and support corrective actions for recurring test or quality issues.
  • Train and mentor team members on test procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and safety practices.
  • Communicate risks related to schedule, equipment, material, or technical issues to leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement in test processes, equipment utilization, and workflow efficiency.
  • Enforce escalation processes for safety, quality, and critical failures.
  • Manage workforce expectations including performance, accountability, and attendance.
  • Flexible and adaptable team player who operates with agility and resourcefulness and thrives in an often-changing environment. You will be operating with a start-up mindset and must be willing to help wherever needed - "not my job" is an unacceptable response.

  • Test Technicians.
  • Test Leads.

COMPETENCIES

  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Strong understanding of electrical safety including NFPA 70E, PPE, and safe test practices.
    • Knowledge of UL standards, customer specifications, and test compliance requirements.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of electrical systems, switchgear, and test methods.
    • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
    • Experience with relay protection testing, functional testing, and system validation.
    • Ability to lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis across complex systems.
    • Familiarity with automated test systems (LabVIEW, PLCs, etc.) preferred.
  • Leadership and Teamwork:
    • Ability to lead, coach, and develop test technicians.
    • Strong communication and coordination across production, engineering, and quality teams.
    • Ability to drive accountability and maintain team performance under pressure.
  • Operational and Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Strong prioritization and decision-making skills to maintain throughput.
    • Ability to quickly resolve issues impacting testing and production flow.
    • Ownership of daily execution and schedule adherence.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Ability to identify process gaps and drive improvements.
    • Experience with Lean manufacturing or structured problem-solving preferred.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  • Safety: Compliance with safety standards and incident prevention.
  • Quality: First pass yield, defect detection accuracy, rework reduction.
  • Delivery: On-time test completion, throughput, bottleneck reduction.
  • Efficiency: Downtime reduction, troubleshooting effectiveness, equipment utilization.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical testing, manufacturing, or related field.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong experience with electrical test equipment and troubleshooting required.
  • Experience in medium voltage or power systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated career ambition with a track record of growth and increasing responsibility; highly promotable with the potential to take on broader leadership roles within a fast-paced, high-growth organization 

PHYSICAL / MENTAL / ENVIRONMENTAL

Physical Demands:

Activities: Sitting 20%, Walking/Standing 80%

Lifting: Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

Bending: Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, and climb.

Vision: Ability to see detailed components and work on screens.

Mental Demands: Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Environment: Shop/warehouse environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and hazards.

Compensation actually offered for this role will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
