Fermanian School of Business

The Fermanian School of Business (FSB) is an ACBSP-accredited “Best Practice” school with approximately 900 students across traditional undergraduate degrees in business, and graduate and adult undergraduate degrees in both business and leadership. Our FSB guiding principle is “more than the bottom line.” FSB is highly collaborative and supportive of scholarship activities. Our traditional undergraduate majors include management, marketing, accounting, finance, information systems, and international development. The FSB also offers an MBA program for experienced professionals, an early career MBA program for recent graduates, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL). In addition, the FSB offers online and hybrid Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in partnership with local community colleges.

Salary
PLNU pays its faculty using a pay scale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 2-semester appointment range from $78,494 to $137,747. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Responsibilities of Professor of Finance

Responsibilities begin in August 2027 and will include teaching a variety of courses in Finance.

Finance faculty must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate for effective undergraduate and graduate teaching. They are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students, and to do the following:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses in a variety of modalities
• Advise and mentor students academically, professionally, and spiritually
• Participate in departmental activities and governance
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts, including FSB assessment and engagement in professional development
• Serve on university faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties
• Engage in scholarship
• Involve students in research or professional experience as appropriate
• Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents, and community members

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Finance or a closely related area
• Commitment to teaching excellence
• Commitment to ongoing professional activity and scholarship
• Respectful member of a team-driven and collegial environment
• An active and maturing faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to PLNU as an intentional Christian community in the Wesleyan tradition. This includes living in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. or DBA earned or in progress in finance, or a closely related area, or a willingness to earn a Ph.D. or DBA
• CFP or CFA Certification
• Demonstrated experience as an instructor in finance
• Undergraduate, graduate, and online teaching experience
• Experience teaching diverse student populations 
• Relevant business experience in finance
