Job Description

The primary responsibility is to provide interpreting/transliterating in a variety of situations related to the educational/accessibility needs of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing students campus-wide.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree.
  • Experience in interpreting.
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by Deaf individuals.
  • Knowledge of RID/NAD Code of Ethics and Deaf Culture (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf/National Association of the Deaf).
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RID Certification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience interpreting in a college setting.
  • Knowledge of Math, English and a wide range of college subjects.

 

Skills Assessment:

Interpreters are evaluated based on their educational background and previous interpreting experience. A screening simulation to evaluate receptive and expressive skills and ability to render the message accurately is included in this evaluation process.

 

References:

Applicant must provide at least 3 references.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
