About this Technical Writer - India role at Jumpcloud
About JumpCloud®
JumpCloud is Intelligent, Secure IT.
About the Role
We have a well established technical writing team, and are evolving our approach to content at JumpCloud. We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to lead, scale, and optimize our product and developer documentation. In this role, you won't just write—you will act as an information architect and workflow innovator.
You will leverage cutting-edge AI documentation tools, prompt engineering, and modern automation to streamline content creation. Your goal is to keep our documentation technically accurate, end user focused, and optimized for both human readers and AI retrieval systems (RAG/chatbots).
Key Responsibilities :
Docs-as-Code & Version Control Management
GitHub Native Workflow: Manage documentation using standard developer tools—drafting in Markdown, managing branches, opening Pull Requests (PRs), and conducting code reviews in GitHub.
Continuous Publishing: Integrate into automated CI/CD deployment pipelines using Static Site Generators (e.g., Docusaurus, MkDocs, Hugo).
Maintain strict version control across multiple product releases, API versions, and branch merges.
Content Generation & In-App User Guidance
Cross-collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Product Managers, and Designers to translate UX designs, and technical specs into intuitive content.
UX Writing: Work with Design to provide copy and improve UX prototypes.
Manage Rolling Product Releases: We have continuous releases meaning teams push new features and updates any time throughout the quarter. You should feel comfortable managing and prioritizing 15-20 feature/update releases during a quarter.
Conduct rigorous technical validation: Test feature flags in the product, API endpoints, run sample code, and verify UI flows before publishing.
In-App Engagement: Design, deploy, and manage in-app onboarding flows, tooltips, and release announcements using Pendo (or similar platforms like Appcues/WalkMe).
Prompt Engineering: Design, test, and standardize custom prompts and prompt templates to accelerate process, information architecture, media, and content reformatting.
AI-Assisted Efficiency: Integrate AI assistants into daily workflows to drastically reduce time spent on repetitive tasks (e.g., generating initial drafts, converting legacy docs, auditing terminology etc).
Human Quality Control: Act as the final filter for AI-generated outputs, rigorously auditing content for technical accuracy, brand tone, hallucinations, and security compliance.
Requirements & Qualifications :
Experience: 4-7+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, Documentation Engineer, or Product Content Strategy Specialist in a SaaS or tech environment.
GitHub & Docs-as-Code (Required): Proven mastery of GitHub (PRs, code reviews, branch management), Markdown, and Static Site Generators within a Docs-as-Code pipeline.
AI & Prompting Fluency: Hands-on experience using generative AI tools (LLMs, AI coding assistants, etc) and a working knowledge of prompt engineering techniques.
Technical Depth: Ability to quickly contribute to the platform and new features quickly given highly technical, and nuanced specifications.
Critical Thinking: Strong editorial judgment. We want you to be able to catch subtle hallucinations, out-of-date parameters, or security risks in AI assisted drafts.
In-App Notification Tools (Required): Hands-on, demonstrated experience building and targeting in-app messaging, guides, and analytics using Pendo (or comparable tools like Appcues, Userpilot, WalkMe).
Additional Qualifications We Value :
Experience using Pendo to track documentation consumption and guide completion rates.
Experience training and refining AI models on internal style guides and technical glossaries.
Background in API design or developer-focused content strategy.
Ability to create JSON scripts.
Kindly share your portfolio while applying for the role. This can include documentation samples, AI prompts, demo video or video recordings of using AI to improve a process, examples of in-app notifications/announcements or onboarding flows, Git repositories etc.
