About this Technical UI Artist (Game Industry) role at Nimble Workforce
We are looking for a Technical UI Artist who combines strong visual design ability with hands-on technical implementation skills in Unreal Engine.
You will work with UX Designers, UI Artists, Technical UI Designers, and UI Engineers to turn wireframes and visual concepts into polished, performant UI. This role is particularly focused on the technical side of UI art: materials, shaders, animation, motion, effects, in-engine implementation, and solving visual problems within real-time constraints.
Requirements
In this role, you will
- Collaborate with UX Design, Technical UI Design, UI Art, and Engineering to create AAA-quality user interfaces.
- Turn wireframes and UX concepts into polished visual designs and working in-engine UI.
- Create and maintain design systems, menus, HUD elements, iconography, UI materials, shaders, animation, and motion design.
- Build and implement UI art directly in Unreal Engine using UMG.
- Create material and shader effects for UI.
- Create UI animations, transitions, 2D effects, and other real-time visual treatments.
- Implement basic Blueprint logic where appropriate to support UI presentation.
- Investigate visual, performance, and implementation problems and work with technical partners to resolve them.
- Optimize UI assets and effects for runtime performance.
- Rapidly modify work as requirements and feature designs evolve.
- Help maintain visual consistency and quality across the broader UI/UX experience.
What we're looking for
- Professional Unreal Engine and UMG experience. Unreal experience is required for this role.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality UI visual design and implementation.
- Experience creating UI from concept through final in-engine implementation.
- Strong skills with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable visual design tools.
- Strong experience creating UI materials and shaders for real-time applications.
- Experience with motion design, UI animation, visual effects, or interaction design.
- Strong understanding of layout, composition, hierarchy, typography, and visual communication.
- The ability to work autonomously on complex UI features while collaborating effectively across disciplines.
- Experience working within technical constraints and adapting visual designs as implementation requirements change.
- Strong player empathy and an understanding of how visual decisions affect usability.
Preferred
- Experience optimizing and debugging real-time UI.
- Experience with shader logic and technically complex material effects.
- A mathematical foundation useful for shader and motion work, including vector math, transforms, interpolation, matrices, and related concepts.
- Experience designing responsive interfaces across varying resolutions, aspect ratios, or device types.
- Mobile UI experience.
Frontend web development experience such as HTML, CSS, or JavaScript is not a core qualification for this role. It may demonstrate useful adjacent skills, but it should not prevent an otherwise strong Unreal UI artist from applying.
