Job Overview
The Technical Superintendent oversees the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of assigned vessels. This role manages day-to-day technical operations, scheduled maintenance, dry-docking projects, regulatory compliance, and budget adherence while supporting vessel management teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Vessel Operations & Maintenance: Monitor daily technical performance, conduct regular vessel inspections, and manage planned maintenance systems (PMS) to ensure operational reliability.
- Dry-Docking & Repairs: Plan, budget, and supervise dry-docking, major repairs, retrofits, and emergency dry-docking operations, including shipyard management and contractor supervision.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC, MARPOL, SOLAS, and relevant Classification Society rules across assigned fleet units.
- Financial Management: Prepare, monitor, and control operational budgets (OPEX) for assigned vessels; review and approve technical purchase orders and invoice variances.
- Safety & Audits: Lead root-cause analyses for technical failures or incidents, participate in internal/external audits, and drive continuous safety improvement.
- Crew Support & Leadership: Mentor Chief Engineers and shipboard staff, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and operational instruction.
Requirements
- Education: Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent maritime discipline.
- Certification: Chief Engineer Unlimited (STCW III/2) CoC is highly preferred.
- Experience: Preferably 3–5 years of sea-going experience as Chief Engineer / 1st Assistant Engineer, or 2+ years of onshore experience as a Technical Superintendent. Open for those coming back from sea
