About the Role
Level:4
Department: Technology
Location: London I Southampton
Contract type: Permanent
Quilter is building a new API and Integration Platform. As API Product Owner you will own the “what and when” of that platform, turning the API strategy into a prioritised, deliverable backlog and ensuring each API we build delivers real value to integrating organisations.
You will work hand-in-glove with the Lead Integration Platform Architect (who owns the “how”), our engineering teams and our delivery partner, and you will play a central role in proving the platform through priority business use cases.
As a Product Owner, you will be responsible for translating API strategy into deliverable outcomes, ensuring teams are focused on the highest-value priorities and delivering capabilities that meet business and user needs.
You will work closely with engineering teams, architects and stakeholders to manage demand, define priorities and maintain a clear and achievable backlog.
You will ensure API products and services are delivered effectively, aligned to organisational priorities and achieve the intended customer, adviser and colleague outcomes.
You will act as the day-to-day owner of API delivery, creating clarity for delivery teams and ensuring work progresses in line with agreed priorities, standards and expected outcomes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Own and maintain the API product backlog using Agile Development methodologies.
- Translate product strategy into prioritised deliverables, user stories and outcomes.
- Work with stakeholders to gather, clarify and prioritise requirements.
- Ensure delivery teams understand priorities, objectives and expected outcomes.
- Support planning, refinement and prioritisation activities.
- Balance stakeholder demand against capacity, dependencies and strategic priorities.
- Work closely with Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient and high-quality API capabilities.
- Ensure delivered solutions support the intended customer, adviser and colleague outcomes.
- Monitor delivery progress and manage risks, issues and dependencies.
- Use feedback, usage data and stakeholder insight to improve products and services.
- Promote API reuse and adoption across internal and external consumers.
- Define success measures and use data and insight to assess performance and value delivered.
- Support release planning, implementation and continuous improvement activities.
- Help identify opportunities to use AI, automation and emerging technologies to improve delivery effectiveness and business outcomes.
- Ensure AI-related requirements, risks and dependencies are appropriately considered during delivery.
- Build awareness, engagement and adoption of API capabilities across the organisation.
- Balance short-term priorities with long-term platform and business objectives.
- Communicate priorities, progress, risks and decisions to stakeholders.
- Own the API-as-a-product model. Treating internal and third-party consumers as customers, manage the API catalogue, and drive reuse, adoption and self-service.
- Prioritise and sequence delivery of priority use cases with third parties and AR firms to prove the platform.
- Manage the product relationship and delivery dependencies with FNZ and other platform providers, whose API roadmaps gate Quilter’s delivery.
- Own the API developer experience — documentation, onboarding and sandbox — for internal and external consumers.
- Partner closely with the Lead Integration Platform Architect on standards, API contracts and route-to-live.
- Own API product metrics — adoption, availability, response time, time-to-integrate and reliability.
About You
You will be an experienced Product Owner or delivery professional with a strong understanding of agile delivery and technology products.
You will enjoy working closely with teams to turn strategy into practical outcomes and will be comfortable managing priorities across multiple stakeholders and competing demands. You will be customer-focused, delivery-oriented and motivated by delivering measurable business value.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Experience as a Product Owner or similar delivery-focused role.
- Experience managing and prioritising backlogs within agile delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of API products, system integration and digital platforms.
- Experience owning API products specifically (not just software features) including API lifecycle, versioning, developer experience, and consumer onboarding.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem (Azure DevOps, Azure API Management) and modern API tooling (OpenAPI).
- Experience managing delivery dependencies on third-party platform / SaaS providers (e.g. wealth-platform providers such as FNZ).
- Experience working closely with engineering, architecture and delivery teams.
- Strong requirements gathering, analysis and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to translate business needs into clear deliverables and user stories.
- Strong understanding of customer outcomes and value-driven delivery.

- Ability to make effective prioritisation decisions in complex environments.
- Curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset, with a willingness to challenge existing approaches.
- Understanding of AI-enabled capabilities and how they can support product and delivery outcomes.
- Experience working within a regulated environment would be advantageous.
- Experience delivering within a regulated financial-services environment (e.g. FCA-regulated) is strongly preferred.
- High levels of ownership, integrity and accountability.
