The role provides technical assurance across specialist and statutory maintenance activities and acts as the primary technical authority supporting the Site Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Asset Management

  • Own the site's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS — e.g. Corrigo), including work order logging, scheduling and tracking for workplace and lab assets.
  • Define and maintain the technical boundary between facilities (JLL)-managed and lab-managed infrastructure, including power supply, compressed air, fume hood extraction, oil sinks/sumps, gas detection systems and electrical distribution.
  • Coordinate specialist engineering design review and technical sign-off for process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation & control (I&C) systems.
  • Maintain current inspection, maintenance and licensing records, including certificates, within the site's document/records platform.

Maintenance Delivery

  • Oversee scheduled (planned) and corrective maintenance delivery for lab-critical infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Manage specialist statutory inspection programmes, including pressure vessels, relief valves and oxygen-clean systems, via certified inspection bodies.
  • Manage specialist laboratory analytical instrument calibration and maintenance programmes (e.g. GC, SEM, DI water systems) via OEM-certified technicians.
  • Maintain and test gas detection systems across the gas yard, enclosure and laboratory areas.
  •

High-Hazard Systems Oversight

  • Provide technical oversight of high-pressure, high-temperature and hazardous process system operation and maintenance, including PESO-certified equipment.
  • Oversee process gas distribution, hazardous/toxic gas handling and gas detection/alarm systems, coordinating with specialist industrial gas partners.
  • Support technical input into Management of Change (MOC) assessments for engineering and process changes.

Vendor & Specialist Partner Management

  • Manage relationships with OEM-certified technicians, calibration providers, and specialist engineering and industrial gas partners.
  • Validate the technical scope, quality and completeness of specialist partner deliverables.
  • Coordinate scheduling and site access for specialist statutory inspections and calibration visits.

Technical Documentation & Governance

  • Own technical drawing review, engineering documentation accuracy verification, and coordination with document control.
  • Support HAZOP/HAZID technical input and closure of engineering-related actions during design and transition phases.
  • Maintain the operating boundary definitions between fixed building/workplace assets and specialist lab systems for maintenance dispatch purposes.

Commissioning & Continuous Improvement

  • Support commissioning assurance for lab systems (gas, venting, extraction) during site transition and any future infrastructure changes.
  • Identify and implement engineering reliability improvements and support capital project scoping for lab infrastructure upgrades.

Qualification & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Process, Chemical or Instrumentation Engineering — essential.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent recognised professional engineering licensure — preferred.

Certification & Licenses

-          Working knowledge of PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation) requirements and certification pathways — essential.

-          Process Safety Management (PSM) training.

-          Familiarity with statutory inspection frameworks and accreditation bodies (e.g. ASME, API) for pressure equipment.

-          CMMS platform proficiency/certification (e.g. Corrigo) — desirable.

Experience Required

-          10+ years' experience in engineering or technical management roles within process industries, industrial laboratories, or similarly regulated facilities.

-          Hands-on experience with high-hazard systems, process gas systems, and specialist inspection/calibration regimes.

-          Experience managing outsourced or specialist technical vendors and validating their technical delivery.

-          Experience supporting or leading HAZOP/HAZID studies and engineering risk assessments.

Technical Competencies

-          Strong working knowledge across process, mechanical, electrical and I&C engineering disciplines.

-          Understanding of PSSR, PESO and relevant statutory inspection frameworks for pressure and hazardous systems.

-          Proficiency in CMMS and maintenance planning methodologies.

-          Working knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) and technical risk assessment methodology.

Leadership & Behavioural Competencies

  • Technical credibility with the ability to constructively challenge specialist partners on scope and quality.
  • Structured, methodical problem-solving approach to engineering and maintenance issues.
  • Effective cross-functional coordination with the HSSE Manager and Site Lead.
  • Vendor performance management and contract technical assurance.
