Job Description

As System Architect Ventures, you will be responsible for assessing new technologies and shaping the architecture of innovative Health & Wellness solutions in a fast-moving venture environment. You translate user needs, business opportunities, technology possibilities, regulatory expectations and product requirements into robust system architectures for new products and prototypes.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, external partners, suppliers and stakeholders to drive end-to-end system design, integration, testing and validation. The role requires strong technical leadership, pragmatic decision-making and the ability to balance speed, quality, scalability, compliance and risk in early-stage product development.

You are responsible for

  • Defining and driving the system architecture for new venture products and prototypes, ensuring alignment with current and future product features, business needs, user requirements, regulatory expectations and architectural principles.

  • Translating venture concepts and user needs into clear system definitions, product requirements, architecture documentation, interface specifications and technical roadmaps.

  • Leading architecture discussions and trade-off decisions across system performance, usability, reliability, scalability, manufacturability, interoperability, cost, compliance and speed.

  • Collaborating closely with product management, engineering, design, quality, regulatory, clinical, operations, external suppliers and partners to conceptualize and implement innovative solutions.

  • Assessing new technologies, platforms, components and partner capabilities to improve user value, product performance, resilience, durability and time to market.

  • Supporting make-buy-partner decisions by assessing technical feasibility, supplier capabilities, integration complexity and long-term scalability.

  • Designing, optimizing and validating system architectures using established product development processes while adapting pragmatically to the speed and ambiguity of venture development.

  • Leading the end-to-end system design and development process, including architecture definition, integration, testing, verification, validation and design transfer readiness.

  • Evaluating technical uncertainties and product risks, developing mitigation strategies and contributing to risk management activities throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Constructing, validating or guiding the development of test systems and prototypes for hardware, software and connected product components to ensure performance, reliability and safety.

  • Conducting exploratory testing and structured technical evaluations to identify improvement opportunities and validate system behavior under realistic use conditions.

  • Coaching and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, collaboration and pragmatic problem-solving.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in system architecture, product architecture, system design, hardware engineering, connected products, medical or consumer product development, or product lifecycle management.

  • Demonstrated experience in skin, hair and scalp science, spanning fundamental biological understanding and its translation into consumer-relevant product and technology applications.

  • Proven experience translating early-stage ideas, user needs and business concepts into feasible product architectures and technical requirements.

  • Strong understanding of product development processes, including requirements management, risk management, verification, validation, integration and design transfer.

  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, independently plan and execute work, and communicate progress, risks and trade-offs clearly.

  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance innovation, quality, speed, cost, compliance and manufacturability.

  • Experience working in fast-changing, dynamic, cross-functional and cross-cultural environments.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across different functions, partners and organizational levels.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • A pragmatic, hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail and a can-do attitude.

  • Interest in Health & Wellness products, consumer needs, emerging technologies and venture-style product innovation.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with connected products, smart devices, digital health, personal care, consumer electronics or regulated product environments.

  • Familiarity with hardware, firmware, software, cloud, mobile app, sensing, connectivity, data and system integration topics.

  • Experience working with external development partners, ODMs, technology suppliers, startups or innovation ecosystems.

  • Knowledge of relevant standards, quality systems, regulatory expectations, privacy, cybersecurity and safety considerations for Health & Wellness or consumer health products.

  • Certification such as Certified Systems Engineering Professional, CSEP, or Certified Systems Architect, CSA, is considered a plus.

Key capability

The successful candidate combines deep technical expertise with venture-oriented speed and flexibility. They can move from concept to prototype to scalable product architecture while making clear trade-offs, managing risks and bringing teams together around a shared technical direction.
