Supplier Quality Engineer

The Supplier Quality Engineer supports the Santa Clarita Integrated Systems site in addition to the broader Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions BU’s ad hoc. Will be responsible for leading customer facing Supplier Program Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality and supplier inspection results. As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will provide supplier quality engineering support during new parts and serial production process which includes new part approval and suppliers nonconforming disposition, on-site audits, source inspection, validation of effectiveness of supplier corrective actions, performance reviews etc.

This role involves a combination of on-site collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely. Position can be located near commutable distance near Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions (Santa Clarita, CA Greater Los Angeles).

Location: Santa Clarita, CA

Salary Range: 83,800.00 - 111,800.00 per year plus bonus.

Your Challenge:

• Performs periodic supplier evaluations, new parts validation and approval for new projects and parts localization projects & resolves problems for parts issued from customer, production, or those found at IQC.
• Provides analysis on all processes to determine the root cause and propose solutions with follow-up to suppliers through monitoring and support suppliers’ product/process quality control system improvement by system/process/product audits, supplier training and project management etc
• Gathers and reports supplier related product defects, failure modes and other Quality related issues to vendors and facilitates 8D Corrective Action and Root Cause investigations with suppliers in addition to participation in CW non-conformance investigations
• Works closely with Supply Chain Management to monitor delivery and quality performance through regular reporting or regular business reviews
• Reviews and dispositions flow downs from CW or Customer to vendors and ensure they are effectively executed
• Plan & Conduct Supplier Quality Audits
• Owns the assigned Program Supplier Quality processes, ensuring quick response and effective corrective actions on customer raised SCARS, audit findings and feedback obtained through the Customer Service Index (CSI) process
• Drives the 8D CAPA process through the organization, including implementation/improvement to tools, training, and metrics
• Ensures quick response and effective corrective actions on customer raised SCARS, audit findings and feedback obtained through the Customer Service Index (CSI) process
• Manages the Supplier Quality process (including performing quality audits and administering the SCAR process)
• Supports the planning and execution of the internal audit plans designed to ensure sustained compliance to AS9100
• Interacts with Supply Chain, Operations, Contracts and other Engineering disciplines to ensure compliance to Quality requirements and resolve Customer and Product Line nonconformances as required and provides QA support on the implementation of supplier deviation/waiver requests
• Ability for 20%-30% Ad-Hoc Travel required to visit customers, carry out supplier visits and meet periodically to discuss quality plans face-to-face at other C5ISR sites within the division.

What You Bring:

• Experience with supplier auditing to AS9100, company and customer flowdown requirements applied to both manufacturing and product development – preferably within an aerospace environment

• Knowledge of FAA regulations: 14 CFR Part 21 and 145 is considered a plus

• Demonstrated proficiency within the functional domain in Quality strategies, standards, sciences and controls. Ability to guide implementation in appropriate applications through design and development into high-mix/low-high volume manufacturing and supply chains

• Approachable hands-on style with the ability to engage with people at all levels of management.

• Experience in use and understanding of Quality tools (FMEA, APQP/PPAP, 8D RCCA, SPC, Lean, Six Sigma and relevant industry standards

• Knowledge of First Article Inspection to AS9102 industry standards and suppliers, NetInspect and use of control plans and inspection processes that are capable of meeting product requirements

• Working knowledge of AS9100 / ISO9001based Quality Management System requirements. AS9100 Lead / Internal Auditor Certification is a plus

• Encourages high level collaboration of cross-functional teams.

• Knowledgeable in the interpretation and application of the following standards: J-STD-001, IPC- A-600, IPC-A-610 Rev D Class 3, IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-7711/7721.

• Experience with QA oversight of the DO-254 and DO178-B standards.

• Practical 8D or other structured problem-solving methodology expertise.

• Experience interfacing directly with major customers on Quality issues.

• Product Reliability, Maintainability, Durability methodology.

• ESD Control Requirements.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principals, including experience with 5S audits.

• Understanding of the required Engineering Documents for PCBA manufacturing.

• Understanding of configuration management (CM), BOM, data and software structures.

• Experience with SAP or another MRP is an asset.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Experience dealing with remote teams in multi-site environments.

• High degree of Product Integrity and Ethical standards

• AS9006 and/or CMMI experience are considered assets.

Minimum Education requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace/Electrical/Mechanical/Software Engineering or technical equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of prior related experience or Graduate degree with a minimum of 3 years of prior related experience.
• In lieu of a degree, candidates may be considered with a minimum of 8 years of prior related supplier quality experience within the aerospace and defense or other regulated industry, commensurate with the position responsibilities and skills
• ASQ CMQOE and/or ASQ CQE will be considered significant assets
