Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts and The New School for Social Research — which includes all undergraduate and graduate programs — is seeking a Communications and Events Student Assistant Specialist to support the Associate Director of Communications and Events within the Executive Dean's Office. This role helps raise the visibility of the college's academic programs, faculty, students, alumni, centers, labs, and institutes through event staffing and Splash event page development. The successful candidate will report to the Associate Director of Communications and Events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with event planning and provide on-site event staffing support.

  • Build Splash event registration pages for programs across the college and schedule associated confirmation and reminder emails.

  • Review and approve Splash pages for grammatical accuracy, correct formatting, properly hyperlinked links and bios, and complete event details.

  • Manage newsletter subscriber lists in Mailchimp, updating existing contacts and maintaining the organization spreadsheet.

  • Archive newsletters and maintain up-to-date archive records.

  • Monitor Google Alerts and press mentions relevant to the college's programs, faculty, and initiatives.

  • Communicate regularly with the Associate Director of Communications and Events via email and Slack, providing weekly updates on task progress.

  • Track key communications metrics, such as newsletter open rates, social media engagement, and event attendance, as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current matriculated student at The New School.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Interest in, or basic understanding of, communications principles and practices.

  • High level of professionalism.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

  • Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Proficiency with technical platforms such as Mailchimp, Canva, Google Workspace, and social media platforms (X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate student.

  • Previous communications experience.

  • Previous experience with website management systems.

  • Familiarity with project management software platforms.

  • Event planning experience.

WORK MODE
● Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have a regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI

Hourly Rate: $18 - 21/hr

Responsibilities:

The student worker position supporting the Screen Studies Production Studio is essential for the successful teaching of hands-on workshops and technical demonstrations including how to operate a camera, light, use sound equipment, block scenes, film interviews, and other important skills. By supporting faculty through the maintenance of equipment, this role ensures that students meet the learning objectives outlined in their courses.
