Strategic Sourcing Manager

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for managing category negotiations across Amgen for a specific set of indirect spend categories.

In this role, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will play a key role in developing and executing sourcing strategies that align with business objectives, category strategies, and regional requirements. This includes leading sourcing initiatives, driving cross-functional collaboration, and enabling third-party solutions that enhance Amgen spend management across the categories under their scope of responsibility.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will conduct scenario analysis and supplier evaluations that go beyond Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), incorporating Amgen-wide and business objectives such as diversity, sustainability, and innovation, while aligning award decisions with broader supplier strategies and relationships.

• Drive sourcing events on behalf of Amgen affiliates, delivering world-class procurement services.
• Partner with Category Management and Business Partners to identify opportunities and build sourcing initiatives aligned with business and category priorities.
• Lead complex sourcing initiatives from strategy development through execution and value realization.
• Deliver cost efficiencies, improved speed-to-market, supplier innovation, and broader business value through effective sourcing strategies.
• Lead projects through sourcing events, supplier evaluations, vendor negotiations, and contract development across assigned categories.
• Conduct scenario analysis and supplier assessments using criteria that extend beyond Total Cost of Ownership, including sustainability, diversity, innovation, business objectives, and broader supplier strategy.
• Act as the main point of contact for Country Business Partners across assigned categories and coordinate activities with the Strategic Sourcing Lead, Category Champions, and other procurement stakeholders.
• Partner with cross-functional and regional stakeholders to ensure sourcing strategies reflect business needs, market insights, category strategies, and regional requirements.
• Support supplier relationship management and contract lifecycle activities, ensuring strong commercial, contractual, and business outcomes.
• Proactively promote compliance with procurement processes, policies, and governance requirements while identifying and mitigating organizational and supplier-related risks.
• Escalate issues through the appropriate sponsorship and governance channels when necessary.
• Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs), sourcing outcomes, value delivery, and other relevant metrics to drive performance and provide transparency across the organization.
• Guide and train team members and stakeholders on procurement processes, sourcing strategies, tools, and best practices.
• Leverage data, market intelligence, supplier insights, and analytics to support sourcing decisions and identify opportunities for supplier-enabled innovation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across sourcing processes, procurement strategies, stakeholder engagement, and supplier management.

Minimum requirements

• Master's degree and 4 years of business partnering, category management, strategic sourcing, procurement, or related experience.

OR

• Bachelor's degree and 6 years of business partnering, category management, strategic sourcing, procurement, or related experience.

Preferred requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience leading a small team or working as an individual contributor with strong knowledge of sourcing strategies and their successful execution.

• Strong procurement, strategic sourcing, and category management experience within a complex global organization, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated industries.

• Deep understanding of strategic sourcing principles, supplier relationship management, and contract lifecycle management.

• Experience managing complex, cross-functional sourcing initiatives from strategy development through execution and value realization.

• Strong financial, legal, commercial, and contractual understanding, with the ability to navigate complex indirect materials and services agreements and deliver business-aligned outcomes.

• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate market insights, stakeholder priorities, and business needs into effective procurement and sourcing strategies.

• Ability to navigate and influence within matrixed organizations across functions, regions, and leadership levels.

  Strong analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data, market intelligence, supplier insights, and performance metrics to inform procurement decisions and drive supplier-enabled innovation.

• Strong change management skills, with the ability to support the adoption of complex procurement and business strategies across stakeholder ecosystems.

  Experience working across multiple markets, regions, or geographies.

• Familiarity with indirect procurement categories such as Marketing Services, Consulting, Corporate Services, Market Intelligence, Commercial Operations, or related categories.

• Experience supporting regional or global category strategies in collaboration with global procurement and category management teams.

• Experience measuring and managing value delivery, including pipeline generation, value realization, performance metrics, and recognition of procurement outcomes.

• Advanced degree or significant professional experience in Strategic Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is considered an advantage.

• Strong collaboration skills and a demonstrated one-team mindset, with the ability to build effective relationships across procurement teams, business stakeholders, and suppliers.

• Ability to connect stakeholder priorities with procurement strategies and translate them into end-to-end value across sourcing, supplier partnerships, and operational execution.

• Demonstrated adaptability and willingness to evolve approaches in response to changing business needs, ambiguity, and market dynamics.

• Strong focus on delivering measurable business value through strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement leadership.

• Strong ownership, accountability, self-motivation, and prioritization capabilities.

• Strong communication, stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, organizational, and project leadership skills.
