About this Staff Specialist / VMO - Anaesthetics (FANZCA) role at Mediix

Mediix · Onsite · Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia

Permanent Full-Time or Part-Time | Coastal NSW | Relocation Support Available

Are you a FANZCA-qualified Anaesthetist looking for a rewarding consultant role where you can enjoy clinical variety, professional growth and an enviable coastal lifestyle?

We are supporting a well-established regional base hospital on the beautiful Mid North Coast of NSW with recruitment an experienced Anaesthetist to join its growing team. With flexible employment options, opportunities to contribute to teaching and clinical leadership, and a supportive working environment, this is an excellent opportunity to build your career while enjoying life outside the hospital.

About the Hospital

This major regional hospital provides comprehensive acute and specialist healthcare services to the surrounding coastal and hinterland communities. As a key referral centre within one of NSW's largest local health districts, it plays an important role in delivering care to a population of more than 900,000 people across a broad regional catchment.

The hospital offers a diverse clinical environment, with access to multidisciplinary expertise and links to a major university medical program. Its role in regional healthcare provides specialists with the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to patient outcomes while working across a varied and rewarding caseload.

The Anaesthesia Department

You will join an established, collaborative department comprising approximately 12 specialist anaesthetists, supported by a GP anaesthetist, GP anaesthesia trainees and Senior Resident Medical Officers.

The department values teamwork, high-quality patient care and ongoing professional development. There are opportunities to become involved in teaching medical students through the University of Newcastle's Joint Medical Program, as well as contributing to clinical projects, departmental portfolios and service improvement initiatives.

The Opportunity

Depending on your experience and preferred working arrangements, permanent full-time and part-time appointments are available, with opportunities for Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer engagement.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide high-quality anaesthetic services across a range of surgical and clinical specialties.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nursing teams and other medical specialists.
  • Contribute to safe, evidence-based perioperative care and positive patient outcomes.
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and the professional development of junior clinicians.
  • Take part in clinical governance, quality improvement and departmental initiatives.
  • Explore opportunities for clinical leadership, project involvement and portfolio responsibility.

What is on offer?

  • Flexible employment: Full-time and part-time arrangements to suit different career and lifestyle priorities.
  • Professional development: Opportunities for teaching, clinical leadership and involvement in service development.
  • Established team: Work alongside an experienced group of specialists in a collaborative environment.
  • Relocation assistance: Support available to help you and your family settle into the region.
  • Personalised onboarding: Dedicated medical recruitment and settlement support throughout the appointment and relocation process.
  • Additional benefits: Access to NSW Health salary packaging, Fitness Passport and employee assistance programs, subject to eligibility.

Live and Work on the Beautiful Coast

The Mid North Coast offers an appealing combination of coastal living, natural beauty and a welcoming regional community. Enjoy beautiful beaches, rivers, national parks and outdoor activities such as surfing, fishing, boating and hiking, all within easy reach of home. With a more affordable lifestyle than many major metropolitan areas and convenient access to Newcastle and Sydney, the region offers an excellent opportunity to achieve a better work-life balance without sacrificing professional opportunities.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA).
  • Specialist registration with AHPRA.
  • Strong clinical judgement and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary practice.
  • An interest in contributing to education, quality improvement and the ongoing development of anaesthesia services.

Experienced consultants and soon-to-be Fellows approaching completion of their training are encouraged to enquire, with eligibility assessed against the requirements of the appointment.

If you are considering your next career move and would like to explore a consultant anaesthesia opportunity in coastal NSW, we would welcome a confidential conversation - [email protected]
