Staff Program Manager, EHSS Solutions
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Global EHS & Sustainability is building a future-ready operating model founded on Trusted Data, AI Enablement and Decision Intelligence.
As the Staff Program Manager, you will lead the business-side discovery, development, validation and deployment of enterprise EHSS solutions. Your initial primary focus will be Health & Safety solutions. Over time, you will build capability across the broader Environmental, Chemical, Product Compliance and Sustainability solutions portfolio.
You will combine strong EHSS domain knowledge with disciplined program leadership. You will navigate complex stakeholder environments, translate operational and regulatory needs into executable programs, and drive accountability across EHSS subject-matter experts, sites, IT teams, software providers, system integrators and implementation partners.
The role acts as an early evaluator of business needs and opportunities, helping identify where process redesign, enterprise systems, analytics, automation or AI-enabled capabilities can accelerate EHSS outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Lead solution discovery and business definition
- Serve as the primary business program lead for assigned Health & Safety solution initiatives and as the secondary program contact for other EHSS solution domains.
- Facilitate structured discovery with EHSS SMEs, site teams, IT and solution providers to define the problem, desired outcomes, users, scope, constraints and success measures.
- Understand current-state processes, pain points, controls, regulatory obligations, decision points, handoffs and exception paths.
- Lead development of future-state business processes and translate approved needs into business requirements, user stories, process requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Challenge incomplete requirements, unclear ownership, unnecessary customization and proposed solutions that do not address the underlying business need.
- Develop business cases, delivery options and recommendations for portfolio-governance decisions.
Shape AI-enabled business opportunities
- Identify opportunities where AI, automation, analytics, workflow redesign or digital solutions may create measurable business value.
- Evaluate incoming site and global requests through a process, technology and AI-enablement lens to help determine the most appropriate solution path.
- Recognize patterns across requests that may indicate reusable global capabilities rather than isolated local solutions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging AI, workflow automation and enterprise digital capabilities relevant to EHSS operations.
- Partner with EHSS solutions engineers, data specialists, business-systems specialists, IT and SMAI to assess whether opportunities are best addressed through process change, enterprise platforms, analytics, automation, AI-enabled solutions or a combination of approaches.
- Support use-case definition, pilot selection, business validation and value measurement for approved AI-enabled initiatives.
- Develop basic hands-on familiarity with approved agent and automation tools to support discovery, demonstrate simple concepts and communicate effectively with technical delivery teams, without assuming solution-engineering ownership.
Drive end-to-end program delivery
- Lead assigned initiatives from discovery and solution selection through design, development, testing, go-live, stabilization and transition to sustainment.
- Create and maintain integrated program plans covering scope, milestones, resources, dependencies, decisions, risks, issues, testing, deployment and business readiness.
- Drive clarity on roles, deliverables, decision rights and due dates across business, IT, vendors and implementation partners.
- Hold cross-functional delivery teams accountable for agreed commitments, quality and timely issue resolution without relying on direct reporting authority.
- Anticipate delivery barriers, identify recovery actions and escalate unresolved issues with clear options and recommendations.
- Coordinate go-live planning, cutover readiness, stabilization and closure of implementation actions.
Lead third-party solution providers and IT delivery partners
- Lead the business-side delivery relationship for assigned enterprise solutions involving providers such as SAP S/4HANA, ServiceNow, VelocityEHS or comparable platforms.
- Coordinate software vendors, system integrators, implementation partners and internal IT teams against approved business outcomes and program commitments.
- Partner with EHSS business-systems specialists and IT to review solution proposals, implementation approaches, delivery plans, design impacts and support models.
- Ensure statements of work, plans and deliverables clearly reflect approved scope, responsibilities, milestones, testing, documentation, knowledge transfer and acceptance expectations.
- Drive resolution of gaps between business requirements, vendor capabilities and enterprise technology standards.
- Maintain disciplined follow-through on vendor actions, IT actions, defects, decisions, dependencies and remediation commitments.
- Support commercial and supplier-governance discussions with documented evidence of delivery progress, risks, quality and unresolved obligations.
Lead UAT, business acceptance and go-live readiness
- Develop the business UAT strategy, plan, scenarios, entry and exit criteria, tester roles and evidence requirements.
- Coordinate SMEs and site users to validate end-to-end workflows, controls, roles, data, integrations, reports, exception handling and usability.
- Ensure defects and requirement gaps are documented, prioritized, assigned, retested and resolved before business acceptance.
- Lead business readiness and go/no-go recommendations based on objective evidence, residual risks and agreed acceptance criteria.
- Confirm ownership, support routes, operational procedures, knowledge transfer and sustainment arrangements before closure.
- Partner with the OCM Program Manager on stakeholder readiness, communications, adoption activities and reinforcement.
Establish program governance and stakeholders' communication
- Establish a fit-for-purpose governance cadence for each assigned initiative, including working sessions, decision forums, steering reviews and escalation paths.
- Maintain the approved system of record for scope, schedule, milestones, actions, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, changes and status.
- Ensure material decisions and commitments are captured in durable program records rather than remaining only in informal Teams conversations.
- Issue clear, accurate and timely status updates that identify progress, upcoming milestones, decisions required, risks, issues, owners and due dates.
- Tailor communication for executives, sponsors, SMEs, sites, IT teams and external providers while maintaining one consistent source of truth.
- Drive action closure and proactively follow up when commitments are at risk.
- Prepare concise governance materials and decision packages with clear recommendations and implications.
Apply EHSS domain knowledge and build broader capability
- Apply strong Health & Safety knowledge to assess whether proposed processes and solutions are operationally practical, controlled and aligned with management-system and compliance needs.
- Engage Health & Safety leaders, practitioners and site users credibly, while distinguishing global requirements from local practices and preferences.
- Build working knowledge across Environmental, Chemical, Product Compliance and Sustainability processes to provide secondary coverage and support future portfolio mobility.
- Cross-train with peer program managers and maintain sufficient documentation to reduce single points of dependency.
- Capture lessons learned and improve reusable discovery, governance, UAT, deployment and supplier-management practices across the EHSS portfolio.
Track adoption and business outcomes
- Define measurable outcomes and value indicators with sponsors, SMEs and portfolio governance before delivery begins.
- Track whether deployed capabilities achieve approved business outcomes, user adoption and operational performance expectations.
- Ensure unresolved post-go-live issues, control gaps and enhancement needs enter the appropriate sustainment or intake process.
- Provide transparent evidence to support decisions to scale, improve, sustain, replace or retire solutions.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- At least eight years of relevant experience in EHSS, enterprise solution delivery, program management, business transformation or a related field.
- Significant practical experience in Health & Safety, occupational health, incident management, risk management, contractor safety or a comparable regulated operational discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technology-enabled programs involving business stakeholders, site teams, IT organizations, software vendors and implementation partners.
- Experience leading work from discovery and requirements definition through development, UAT, go-live and stabilization.
- Demonstrated ability to translate operational and regulatory needs into clear business requirements, user stories, process designs, acceptance criteria and delivery plans.
- Demonstrated ability to drive accountability, issue resolution and decision-making across complex organizations without direct authority.
- Experience establishing and maintaining integrated program plans, milestone tracking, RAID logs, dependency maps, decision records, action logs and executive status updates.
- Demonstrated discipline in providing accurate, timely and audience-appropriate program communications.
- Experience leading or governing third-party solution providers, system integrators or enterprise implementation partners.
- Experience working directly with IT teams across design, build, testing, deployment and production transition.
- Demonstrated ability to identify where AI, workflow automation, analytics or digital capabilities may address business and process challenges.
- Demonstrated curiosity and working awareness of AI-enabled business solutions, including the ability to evaluate potential applicability, value, risk and implementation considerations.
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, conflict-resolution and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain program status, decisions, risks and trade-offs to senior leaders.
