About Charm

Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.

Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we’ve scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.

We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our company values.

Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

Charm is seeking a Staff Industrial Project Engineer with a mechanical or civil engineering background to lead the development and integration of our production facilities. You'll help turn process and equipment concepts into complete industrial facilities that are safe, maintainable, constructible, and scalable.

You'll serve as a technical owner for major facility projects, working across Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Controls, Facilities, Construction, Operations, Procurement, equipment vendors, and external engineering partners. Your work will span equipment layout, site infrastructure, utilities, constructability, contractor coordination, permitting, and field execution.

We're looking for an experienced engineer who has helped build or significantly modify industrial facilities and enjoys solving problems that cross traditional engineering disciplines. You don't need to be an expert in every discipline; we're looking for someone who knows how industrial facilities come together, can identify the right questions and tradeoffs, and can drive engineering decisions from concept through construction and commissioning.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and integration of industrial facility projects from early concepts through construction and commissioning.

  • Develop facility and equipment layouts considering process flow, utilities, maintenance access, safety, constructability, and future expansion.

  • Coordinate across engineering, construction, and operations teams to resolve technical interfaces and drive design decisions.

  • Manage technical scopes and engineering deliverables from consultants, EPC partners, contractors, and equipment vendors.

  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for quality, constructability, operability, and project requirements.

  • Make practical engineering tradeoffs across safety, performance, cost, schedule, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Resolve field engineering issues during construction and commissioning, while capturing standards and lessons learned to improve future Charm facilities.

  • You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 8+ years of engineering experience supporting industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, energy projects, or other complex physical infrastructure.

  • Experience delivering industrial projects through design, construction, and/or commissioning.

  • Strong practical understanding of how industrial equipment, structures, utilities, and operations integrate within a facility.

  • Experience coordinating across engineering disciplines and resolving technical interfaces.

  • Demonstrated engineering judgment balancing safety, performance, cost, schedule, constructability, and maintainability.

  • Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors, EPC firms, or equipment vendors.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical work across teams.

  • Bonus, if you Bring

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or demonstrated path toward professional licensure; ability to obtain Colorado PE licensure is a plus.

  • Experience with greenfield industrial facilities, major expansions, or industrial site development.

  • Experience with biomass, bulk solids, chemical processing, mining, oil & gas, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.

  • Familiarity with applicable industrial codes and standards such as OSHA, IBC, NFPA, ASCE, ACI, or AISC.

  • Hands-on field experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, permitting, or plant operations.

  • Experience with industrial CAD, 3D modeling, or design-review tools.

  • What We Offer
    • Equity ownership through stock options
    • 100% employee healthcare premiums covered
    • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with multiple plan options
    • Employer-funded HSA contributions for eligible HDHP plans

    • Paid leave, including parental and medical leave
    • PPE and workwear allowances

    • Employee recognition programs that celebrate impactful work and team contributions
