Truist is seeking an experienced attorney to handle complex legal matters and projects involving deposit products, digital banking, payment services, and related regulatory issues. This attorney will conduct legal research, draft and review high-priority documents, and provide actionable legal advice to business leaders and internal stakeholders on matters that may have significant strategic, operational, regulatory, customer, or financial impact. The role requires strong legal judgment, business acumen, and the ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance that supports business objectives while managing legal and compliance risk. The attorney will work under general direction from law department management and may consult with outside counsel, draft and negotiate legal documents, and gather information from multiple sources to support legal analysis and decision-making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Provide legal guidance and training on consumer and commercial deposit products, debit cards, digital experiences, and system-related matters for product managers, operations partners, and digital execution teams.

2.    Review legislative and regulatory developments and advise business, compliance, risk, and operations Provide legal guidance and training on consumer and commercial deposit products, debit cards, digital experiences, and system-related matters for product managers, operations partners, and digital execution teams.

3.  Legal Consultant to stakeholders on impacts to retail and commercial deposit operations, policies, procedures, and customer communications.

4.   Support the development, implementation, and enhancement of deposit-related strategy, products, services, processes, and customer experiences.

5.  Draft, review, and edit client agreements, disclosures, forms, customer communications, and other business-facing or customer-facing materials. 

6. Advise on core retail banking operations, including deposit servicing, payment processing, account access, funds availability, error resolution, fraud controls, and related customer-impacting processes.

7. Provide legal advice on consumer banking laws and regulations, including Truth in Savings Act and Regulation DD, Electronic Fund Transfer Act and Regulation E, Regulation CC, Check 21, NACHA Rules, and Visa and Mastercard Network Rules.

8. Counsel clients on legal, regulatory, operational, reputational, and customer-impact risks arising from business and strategic decisions, including new products, process changes, and control enhancements.

9. Partner with compliance and risk professionals within Consumer, Small Business, Commercial Deposits, and corporate functions to support consistent and practical interpretation of laws and regulations applicable to products and services.

10. Keep clients and internal stakeholders informed of legal and regulatory developments affecting deposit products, payment services, operations, and customer communications.

11. Support clients and internal stakeholders during regulatory examinations, inquiries, audits, and related remediation or implementation efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing
2.    8 years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings.
3.    Possess superior written and verbal communication skills
4.    Ability to prioritize matters, utilize time management skills, and move between matters fluidly
5.    Ability to handle a heavy workload, manage stress effectively and meet critical deadlines
6.    Able to work autonomously without close supervision
7.    Team-oriented mentality and excellent interpersonal skills
8.    Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products

Preferred Qualifications:

1. More than 8 years relevant legal experience, particularly in consumer banking, deposits, payments, or financial services regulation.

2. Demonstrated ability to identify legal and operational issues, deliver creative and practical solutions, and help streamline processes.

3. Commitment to professional growth and willingness to expand into new areas of legal and regulatory practice.

4. Broad understanding of deposit product and debit card development, digital execution, integration, operations, systems, and procedures, as well as consumer deposit- and payment-related state and federal laws and regulations.

5. Familiarity with regulatory examination procedures, regulatory priorities, supervisory expectations, and related governance and control frameworks.

6. Experience providing legal guidance and training on consumer deposit products, payment services, debit cards, and system-related matters for product managers and digital execution teams.

*****The annual base salary for this position is $155,000 - $185,000. ****
