About this Sr. Construction Contract Manager role at GE Vernova

GE Vernova · Onsite · Phoenix

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Contract Manager to support execution of a major hydropower project in the United States. Based on the customer’s site, this role will serve as a key member of the project leadership team and will lead post-award contract management and commercial administration across the full project lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, delivery, installation, commissioning, turnover, and warranty.

This position is intended for a senior project professional who can integrate contract management, commercial discipline, schedule awareness, change management, risk tracking, and project controls coordination in a highly complex delivery environment. The successful candidate will partner closely with project management, planning, construction, sourcing, finance, legal, and technical teams to protect GE Vernova’s contractual position and support disciplined project execution.

Given the scale and complexity of the project, this role requires strong experience managing major construction interfaces, schedule and milestone exposure, formal notice and change processes, supplier and subcontractor coordination, and event-based commercial documentation.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Contract Administration and Commercial Leadership

- Lead post-award administration of the prime contract and related project agreements from notice to proceed through final closeout and warranty.

- Interpret contractual rights, obligations, assumptions, exclusions, deliverables, milestones, and remedies, and communicate their implications clearly to the project team.

- Establish and maintain project contract management procedures, including correspondence protocols, notice requirements, change control workflows, and internal escalation paths.

- Serve as the project’s contractual focal point for formal communications with the customer, partners, subcontractors, and major suppliers.

- Support project leadership in protecting GE Vernova’s commercial position while maintaining clear, professional, and factual communication.

Change Management, Claims, and Notices

- Lead the preparation, review, and administration of contractual notices, change requests, amendments, claims, reservations of rights, and other formal project correspondence.

- Identify events that may give rise to cost or schedule entitlement, including delays, disruption, acceleration, incomplete predecessor work, late customer information, third-party interface failures, and scope changes.

- Coordinate development of substantiation packages, claim narratives, chronologies, and supporting documentation in collaboration with planning, site management, sourcing, finance, and legal teams.

- Evaluate and manage customer-facing and supplier/subcontractor-facing claims, including affirmative and defensive positions.

- Maintain comprehensive notices, changes, and claims registers with status, ownership, due dates, and estimated commercial and schedule impacts.

Interface Management and Dependency Control

- Monitor contractual and commercial interfaces among GE Vernova, SRP, civil/EPC contractors, erection subcontractors, major suppliers, and other third parties.

- Track dependencies affecting GE Vernova scope, including access conditions, design inputs, embedded parts, controls and protection interfaces, balance-of-plant interfaces, and predecessor/successor work.

- Identify, document, and escalate interface issues that may affect cost, schedule, productivity, quality, or entitlement.

- Support development and maintenance of interface matrices, responsibility mapping, and cross-functional issue resolution processes.

Schedule, Milestones, and Project Controls Integration

- Work closely with the project planner and project controls team to ensure contractual milestones, float consumption, progress measurement, recovery plans, and delay events are properly monitored and documented.

- Support assessment of critical path impacts, milestone slippage, schedule change, disruption, acceleration, and liquidated damages exposure.

- Help ensure schedule updates and progress reporting are aligned with contract requirements and defensible project records.

- Contribute to trend and forecast discussions by translating project events into commercial and contractual implications.

- Support milestone verification and payment-related documentation as required by the contract.

Procurement, Supplier, and Subcontractor Commercial Support

- Support review and administration of subcontract and purchase order terms to ensure proper flow-down of prime contract obligations, quality requirements, schedule commitments, and documentation requirements.

- Coordinate with sourcing and procurement teams on supplier and subcontractor change requests, delay issues, back charges, claims, and performance disputes.

- Support site leadership in the commercial administration of erection and construction subcontractors.

- Monitor supplier and subcontractor obligations, deliverables, interfaces, and remedies throughout execution.

Risk Management and Governance

- Participate actively in project risk and opportunity management, with emphasis on commercial, contractual, interface, schedule, and execution risks.

- Maintain a commercial risk and issues log and support mitigation planning with accountable owners and due dates.

- Provide early warning and objective escalation of issues that could materially affect cost, schedule, margin, quality, customer relationship, or project outcomes.

- Support compliance with company procedures, delegated authorities, audit requirements, and recordkeeping standards.

- Coordinate with legal, finance, and project leadership on dispute avoidance and resolution strategies when needed.

Reporting, Records, and Closeout

- Maintain robust contemporaneous project records to support change, claim, payment, and dispute positions.

- Prepare regular commercial status reports summarizing notices, changes, claims, key correspondence, unresolved issues, major risks, and upcoming deadlines.

- Support invoicing and payment administration by verifying contractual milestones, supporting documentation, and entitlement positions.

- Lead or support commercial aspects of turnover, punch list closeout, final account settlement, release management, contract closeout, and warranty issue tracking.

Qualifications

Required Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Business, Law or a related field or 10+ managing large-scale infrastructure construction projects with presence at site.

- Significant experience in contract management, commercial management, project controls, or related project delivery roles on large industrial, power, hydro, tunneling, mining, or other complex EPC / construction projects.

- Demonstrated post-award contract administration experience on major field execution projects with multiple interfaces and high documentation rigor.

Technical and Functional Skills

- Strong understanding of construction and project contract administration principles, including risk allocation, notice requirements, remedies, and claims substantiation.

- Working knowledge of schedule logic, critical path concepts, milestone management, float, and delay/disruption considerations.

- Strong written communication skills, with ability to draft precise contractual notices, claims, meeting records, and executive summaries.

- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage registers, obligations, due dates, and large volumes of project documentation.

- Ability to exercise sound commercial judgment grounded in contract language, project facts, and documented evidence.

- Proficiency with common project controls, reporting, and document management systems.

Leadership and Working Style

- Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed project environment with competing priorities and evolving facts.

- Collaborative and confident in working across project management, engineering, planning, construction, sourcing, finance, and legal functions.

- Proactive in identifying emerging risks and disciplined in driving early action and clear escalation.

- Committed to factual, well-documented, and solution-oriented commercial management.

Location and Travel

- Primary location: customer site.

- Travel may be required from time to time to contractor locations, supplier facilities, and other project-related locations.
