Position Summary

The Senior Benefits Analyst is a strategic and hands on member of the Human Resources team reporting to a Sr HR Director. This role serves as the primary owner of NRP's benefits, leave of absence, ADA accommodation, and workers' compensation programs and is responsible for program design, administration, compliance, financial management, vendor oversight, employee communications, and continuous improvement. The position functions as both a strategic advisor and operational leader, ensuring employees receive exceptional support while maintaining compliant, cost effective, and competitive programs.

The Senior Benefits Analyst develops data driven recommendations that support business objectives while executing the day to day operational activities necessary to deliver an exceptional employee experience. This position serves as the subject matter expert for benefits, retirement, leave, disability, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation programs and partners closely with HR, Payroll, HRIS, Finance, Legal, and external vendors to ensure effective program administration.

Benefits Strategy and Administration

  • Design, evaluate, administer, and continuously improve company benefit programs that support business objectives and attract and retain top talent.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and voluntary benefits.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for all employee benefit plans and provide guidance to employees, managers, and HR partners.
  • Evaluate plan performance, market trends, utilization data, and employee feedback to develop recommendations that enhance program effectiveness and competitiveness.
  • Lead annual benefit renewals and partner with brokers and vendors to evaluate plan design alternatives, financial impacts, and program enhancements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and monitor performance against service level expectations, contractual requirements, and organizational goals.

Benefits Financial Management and Analytics

  • Analyze claims experience, utilization trends, leave metrics, workers' compensation data, and vendor performance to identify opportunities, risks, and cost drivers.
  • Audit and reconcile monthly benefit invoices, vendor billing statements, payroll deductions, and enrollment records to ensure financial accuracy and effective internal controls.
  • Investigate and resolve benefit eligibility, enrollment, deduction, and vendor file discrepancies.
  • Partner with Payroll, Finance, and HRIS to maintain data integrity and ensure accurate benefits administration.

Open Enrollment and Employee Communications

  • Lead all annual open enrollment planning, project management, testing, employee education, communications, and post enrollment audits.
  • Develop and execute benefit communication strategies, educational campaigns, enrollment materials, and employee resources.
  • Create and deliver employee education programs related to benefits, retirement, leave, disability, and wellbeing offerings.
  • Provide timely responses to employee and manager inquiries regarding benefits programs and available resources.

Leave of Absence and ADA Administration

  • Own administration of all leave programs, including FMLA, ADA, state and local leave programs, military leave, personal leave, short term disability, and long term disability.
  • Administer the ADA interactive process, including accommodation assessments, documentation review, employee and manager communication, and ongoing accommodation management.
  • Partner with employees, managers, HR, legal counsel, and third party administrators to ensure compliant leave and accommodation administration.
  • Monitor legislative developments and ensure leave and accommodation programs remain compliant with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Develop educational resources and guidance for managers and employees regarding leave and accommodation processes.

Workers' Compensation Administration

  • Own administration of workers' compensation programs across all operating locations.
  • Coordinate claim reporting, case management, employee communication, return to work efforts, and ongoing claim monitoring.
  • Manage relationships with workers' compensation carriers, third party administrators, occupational health providers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee Ohio BWC administration, audits, reporting requirements, and related invoice reconciliation activities.
  • Analyze workers' compensation trends and identify opportunities to improve outcomes and reduce organizational risk.

Retirement Plan Administration

  • Administer the company's 401(k) and retirement programs, including vendor management, participant communications, employee education, compliance activities, and operational oversight.
  • Coordinate retirement committee meetings and support annual audits, required testing, regulatory filings, participant notices, and plan governance activities.
  • Develop and deliver retirement education resources to support employee financial wellbeing.

Compliance, Systems, and Vendor Management

  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS, Department of Labor, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Own ACA administration, reporting, monitoring, and annual compliance activities.
  • Partner with HRIS and vendors on benefit implementations, configuration changes, integrations, system enhancements, and issue resolution.
  • Lead user acceptance testing, validation, and quality assurance activities for benefit related system changes and implementations.
  • Support broader HR compliance efforts through research, analysis, and monitoring of legislative and regulatory developments impacting employee benefit programs.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience independently administering a complex employee benefits function, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, compliance, vendor management, and employee communications.
  • Experience administering leave of absence programs, disability programs, and ADA accommodations required.
  • Multi state leave administration experience required.
  • Prior workers' compensation administration experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience auditing benefit invoices, payroll deductions, eligibility files, and carrier data preferred.
  • Experience supporting open enrollment, compliance reporting, vendor management, and employee communications required.
  • Experience partnering with Payroll, HRIS, Finance, Legal, and external vendors preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience demonstrating successful independent ownership of a complex benefits function may be considered.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including auditing, reconciliation, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to interpret claims, utilization, leave, and workforce data.
  • Experience with Workday or a comparable HRIS platform.
  • Experience supporting benefit system testing, configuration validation, interfaces, and vendor file feeds.
  • Ability to prepare executive level reports, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Strong project management, organizational, communication, and vendor management skills.

Preferred Certifications

CEBS, CBP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or related certification preferred.

The successful candidate will be comfortable serving as the organization's primary expert for benefits, leave administration, ADA accommodations, retirement plans, and workers' compensation while partnering across multiple business functions to deliver exceptional employee support and operational excellence.
