About the Role
In this role, you’ll be an innovator and a leader, delivering new functionality for our customers while supporting and modernizing our platform; you will tackle complex engineering challenges at scale, processing millions of transactions daily on a platform that meets aggressive uptime SLAs. 

How You'll Make an Impact

People Leadership

• Lead a cross-functional team of Engineers to design, develop, QA, deploy and maintain the payments platform.

• Mentor and grow engineers through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, and deliberate stretch opportunities.

• Build a safe, accountable culture where high standards and psychological safety coexist.

• Enable autonomy by clarifying intent and guardrails, removing obstacles and then trusting your team to make decisions.

• Have the hard conversations regarding performance or behaviour with directness and empathy.

Technical Leadership

• Spend meaningful time hands-on each week, pairing on complex problems, leading design sessions and pairing on critical issues.

• Be the person your team comes to for hard technical calls - you don't defer every decision to a tech lead.

• Model engineering excellence through deep, constructive code reviews that teach as well as critique.

• Champion responsible, secure adoption of AI tools across the SDLC to accelerate delivery and improve quality.

• Play a key role in our architectural direction, evolving our platform to become cloud-native and event-driven.

• Continuously explore new technologies to improve our platform and processes.

Delivery & Operations

• Work with the Product team to translate business requirements into functional, scalable solutions.

• Collaborate with your talented peer group to build solutions that are robust, maintainable and future-proof.

• Ensure your team delivers reliably, removing friction by unblocking work, reducing tech debt, and streamlining processes to maintain flow.

• Ensure availability of the platform through leadership of incident management as required.

• Promote resilient architecture and operational excellence across services.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

• Proven track record leading and developing high-performing software engineering teams.

• Proven hands-on experience in writing clean, scalable, performant, high quality code.

• Deep expertise in modern software engineering practices, cloud platforms, and DevOps approaches including test and deployment automation.

• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

• A collaborative mindset with a passion for learning and problem-solving.

Preferred

• Background in supporting highly transactional, highly available, low latency systems.

• Experience with C#/.NET and MSSQL are highly advantageous.
