Job Description

Help build and support scalable software solutions that connect Salesforce with the broader technology ecosystem at WGU. As a Software Engineer II, you’ll contribute across the software development lifecycle, turning requirements into thoughtful designs and reliable code while partnering with engineers, Operations, and other stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute as a member of the software engineering team, taking ownership of assigned Salesforce and software development work.
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and support software solutions while helping ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and within scope.
  • Translate functional, non-functional, and implied requirements into designs and code, identifying gaps, risks, and deficiencies and proposing solutions.
  • Develop and support integrations among applications, databases, third-party products, and existing infrastructure.
  • Help rapidly identify system problems and restore services while partnering with Operations to troubleshoot issues in your area.
  • Apply testing strategies and tools that balance software quality with cost and implementation timelines.
  • Write technical requirements and documentation, share knowledge with teammates, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the engineering team.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience and a proven track record in developing web-based applications and web services using Java, REST, and other web technologies.
  • 2 years of experience with software, Java (Spring, Apex), JavaScript (Node.js, React, Angular).
  • Experience interfacing with databases and integrating third party products with existing infrastructure.
  • Understanding of software development processes, including planning, measurement, coding, testing, reuse, tools, abstraction, algorithms and complexity, security, and basic system understanding.
  • Ability to create designs that meet functional and non-functional requirements using appropriate design patterns, system decomposition, security, and fault tolerance.
  • Understanding of Software as a Service and designing for scale, reliability, and cost in a public cloud environment, including using data and metrics to analyze Key Performance Indicators.

Experience in Lieu of Education

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with IntelliJ/VS Code, JIRA, GIT, and Agile/Scrum Project Development.
  • Experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language, IDM/OSSO, Hibernate/Seam, Banner, J2EE, Java EE, JavaScript, SQL, and application integration with legacy systems.
  • Experience with Cloud-Native Development and/or Porting/Refactoring of On-Site to Cloud, preferably AWS, and technical certifications.

Work Location

This is a full-time, in-office position requiring five days per week in our Phoenix, Arizona office, designed to foster the collaboration and connection that fuel our best work.

Travel Requirement

This position requires occasional travel of up to 20%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year). Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed. Additional travel may be assigned as needed to support business requirements.
