YOUR MISSION

About the Organisation & Role:

You will be part of the Core Commerce Platform organisation responsible for delivering the omnichannel commerce capabilities that power the purchase journey, inventory availability, delivery promise, order processing & fulfilment and post-purchase experiences across channels. The organisation plays a critical role in ensuring products are available to buy, orders can be fulfilled reliably, and commitments made to consumers are delivered consistently. Through a portfolio of commerce platform capabilities, the organisation enables seamless omnichannel experiences while supporting efficient, scalable, and resilient commerce operations across the global digital ecosystem.

As a Software Engineer, you will build the backend services that power omnichannel commerce capabilities. You will be responsible for technical design, implementation and validation. Working closely with the Lead Engineer and Engineering Manager, you will deliver low-latency services that support real-time consumer experiences.

What you will do:

  • · Develop and support scalable services for real-time inventory availability, allocation, and order promising across digital and physical commerce channels.
  • · Develop accurate Available-to-Sell calculations by combining on-hand, in-transit, reserved, allocated, and safety-stock inventory positions.
  • · Build order-promising capabilities that calculate reliable delivery and pickup estimates based on inventory location, fulfilment-node capacity, carrier options, shipping methods, and operational cut-off times.
  • · Implement inventory segmentation and buffer strategies, including safety stock and channel-specific allocations, to balance availability while minimizing overselling and underselling risks.
  • · Develop production-grade microservices using Java and Spring Boot, with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, maintainability, and operational performance.
  • · Build event-driven inventory processing using Kafka or similar messaging technologies to handle receipts, adjustments, reservations, releases, cancellations, and fulfilment updates in near real time.
  • · Integrate inventory and promising services with OMS, commerce, WMS, ERP, store, and fulfilment platforms to provide consistent availability across the order lifecycle.
  • · Ensure solutions are secure, observable, reliable, and resilient through strong engineering practices.
  • · Own well-defined features or components from design through production.
  • · Write clean, tested and maintainable code, participate in peer reviews, and maintain relevant technical documentation.
  • · Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency through automation and proactive improvements.
  • · Support production services through monitoring, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, contributing to reliability improvements.

YOUR TALENT

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise-grade applications, preferably within commerce, order management, inventory or supply-chain domains.
  • · Hands-on software engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot and microservices architectures.
  • · Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, messaging technologies and integration patterns.
  • · Experience building reliable, scalable, maintainable and production-grade backend services.
  • · Practical understanding of design patterns, data structures and algorithms.
  • · Experience with automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines and production support.
  • · Understanding of observability, reliability engineering and performance optimisation.
  • · Working knowledge of order lifecycle or inventory-management concepts such as availability, reservations, ATP, ATS, allocation or fulfilment.
  • · Experience integrating with OMS, WMS, ERP, commerce or fulfilment platforms will be an advantage.
  • · Experience configuring and extending Distributed Order Management Systems (OMS), with Fluent Commerce experience preferred.
  • · Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies.
  • · Experience using coding agents, LLMs or AI-assisted engineering tools to improve software delivery and developer productivity.
