Title and Summary

Software Engineer II

Mastercard Digital Enablement Services (MDES) is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, automation, and execution of end-to-end quality engineering solutions supporting tokenization, digital payments, and emerging payment technologies.

You will collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, architects, and fellow quality engineers to ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and highly reliable solutions. The ideal candidate is passionate about quality, automation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
As a Software Engineer II, you will design, develop, and support scalable software solutions that power Mastercard's global technology platforms. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, contributing to application design, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and operational excellence. This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, a passion for building reliable systems, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software in a fast-paced Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software applications, services, and APIs.
• Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions that support scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Build and enhance microservices and distributed systems that support Mastercard's technology ecosystem.
• Develop high-quality, reusable, and maintainable code following engineering best practices and coding standards.
• Participate in requirements reviews, solution design discussions, sprint planning, and technical refinement activities.
• Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve software quality and maintainability.
• Apply secure coding practices and software engineering standards throughout the development lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain automated tests to support application quality and reliability.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation to accelerate software delivery.
• Analyze application logs, troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, resiliency, and operational readiness.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Platform, and Quality teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions to improve productivity and software quality.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications and services.
• Strong programming skills in Java and object-oriented design principles.
• Strong experience and sound knowledge of Java, Spring, JUnit, Eclipse IDE, Rest Assured, JBehave/Cucumber frameworks, databases such as Oracle, APIs including REST/SOAP, Continuous Delivery concepts and tools such as Jenkins/Bamboo, and vulnerability tools such as Sonar, Checkmarx/Fortify.
• Experience with XP, TDD and BDD in the software development processes and architecture patterns
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, architecture principles, and distributed system concepts.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization techniques.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Hands-on experience with Maven, Git, Jenkins, and modern software development tools.
• Experience with SQL and data management concepts.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices and Agile software development methodologies.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and software security fundamentals.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Mastercard MDES, tokenization, or digital payment platforms.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications and working within containerized environments.
• Perform PoCs (Proof of Concept) and help Department in the selection of Technology
• Experience building highly available, resilient, and scalable distributed systems.
• Knowledge of performance engineering, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence practices.
• Experience supporting production services in enterprise-scale environments.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and testing best practices.
• Experience integrating quality and automation capabilities into CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to AI-powered software engineering and developer productivity tools.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more.
