Leidos currently has a contingent opening for a Mid-level Social Media Specialist position to work between our Reston, VA office and the customer site in Falls Church, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Defense Health Agency mission. In this mission we… support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in managing and advancing enterprise and leadership social media communications across multiple platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and X. The Senior Social Media Specialist will work closely with Government communications professionals to develop creative, audience-focused content; plan and execute social media campaigns; manage engagement; analyze performance; conduct social listening; and recommend emerging tools, platforms, and best practices that strengthen DHA’s digital presence. This position requires strong strategic communications expertise, sound judgment, creativity, and the ability to translate complex health and mission-related information into timely, engaging, accessible social media content for diverse audiences.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Support DHA enterprise and leadership social media accounts across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, and other Government-approved platforms.
  • Research and develop creative social media content tailored to specific platforms, target audiences, communications objectives, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with annual assessments of DHA social media platforms, including performance analysis and recommendations for new tactics, tools, techniques, and opportunities to improve audience reach and engagement.
  • Monitor social media trends, platform changes, and evolving audience behaviors and provide recommendations to improve DHA’s social media presence.
  • Develop and support social media plans, campaigns, and tactics designed to increase audience awareness, engagement, and interaction.
  • Draft long-range social media plans for Government review and develop ad hoc content plans or tactics to support emerging issues, crisis communications, or trending news opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Government planners and communications professionals to support development and execution of recurring social media plans and daily content.
  • Develop, edit, schedule, and manage Government-approved social media content, including copy, imagery, graphics, video, and other digital assets.
  • Program and publish approved content using social media management platforms such as Sprinklr, Sprout Social, or comparable tools.
  • Monitor DHA social media channels for comments, messages, questions, and other audience engagement and, with Government coordination and approval, develop appropriate responses within established timelines.
  • Ensure social media content complies with applicable Government policies, standards, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of live-streaming events, including setup and operation of necessary equipment.
  • Collect and analyze social media data to evaluate audience behavior, engagement, reach, content performance, brand reputation, and customer support trends.
  • Support development of weekly, monthly, annual, and ad hoc social media analytics reports.
  • Translate social media performance data into findings and recommendations that can help improve DHA’s social media strategy.
  • Conduct social listening to monitor online conversations involving DHA, TRICARE, and other relevant Military Health System topics.
  • Identify audience sentiment, emerging issues, reputational risks, communications opportunities, and changes in online conversation.
  • Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc social listening reports for Government leadership.
  • Coordinate with Government communications professionals, subject matter experts, visual information specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure social media products are accurate, timely, relevant, and aligned with DHA communications priorities.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging social media tools, technologies, trends, and platform best practices and provide recommendations as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, Advertising, English, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in social media, digital communications, public affairs, strategic communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing or supporting organizational, enterprise, executive, or leadership social media accounts across multiple platforms.
  • Experience developing and executing social media content, campaigns, editorial plans, or platform-specific communications.
  • Working knowledge of major social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and X, and familiarity with platform-specific audiences, functionality, trends, and best practices.
  • Experience using social media management tools such as Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting social media performance data, including engagement, reach, audience growth, and content performance.
  • Ability to interpret social media analytics and use findings to support communications recommendations and decision-making.
  • Familiarity with social listening tools and techniques used to monitor online conversations, audience sentiment, emerging trends, and reputational issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, creative, and audience-appropriate social media content.
  • Experience supporting real-time, emerging issue, crisis, or rapid-response communications is preferred.
  • Experience supporting live-streaming events or digital broadcasts is preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex information into concise, engaging, and accessible digital content.
  • Understanding of digital communications, audience engagement, brand management, and online reputation principles.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements and digital accessibility best practices for social media content.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced communications environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Government customers, communications professionals, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with digital content creation, social media analytics, and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Prior military or civilian service is preferable.
  • Experience supporting the Defense Health Agency, Military Health System, DoD, or other federal health or defense organizations.
  • Experience working in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or headquarters-level strategic communications environments.
  • Familiarity with SOP development, communications governance, and enterprise communications toolkits.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $52,000.00 - $94,000.00
