About this Social Media Executive role at Mumsnet

Mumsnet · Onsite · London, England, United Kingdom

About Mumsnet

Mumsnet is the UK’s largest network for parents, with a thriving community of millions who come together to share advice, spark conversation and navigate the realities of family life. Our forums are where culture happens first, from viral parenting moments to honest product reviews and the conversations everyone ends up talking about.

We’re a small, sharp team that punches well above its weight. If you’re looking for a role where you can make an impact from day one, this is it.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Social Media Executive to help build Mumsnet’s presence on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

We’re at the start of using social media as a key marketing channel, so the person in this role will help shape what it becomes. We’re currently in an extensive test-and-learn phase, trialling a range of formats, creative styles, themes and topics to understand what resonates with new audiences, including women who are not yet parents. Our social audience is growing and we welcome fresh thinking on how we develop it further.

This is an end-to-end role. You’ll come up with the ideas, make the content, get it live, see how it performs and recommend what we do next. When a piece needs input from someone else in the team or a third party, you’ll be the one who organises it and keeps it moving.

It’s a junior role, but it comes with a lot of responsibility and creative freedom. If you want to build a career in social media content and strategy, this is a place to learn fast and see your ideas go out into the world.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the content calendar and get posts live across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, including running weekly and monthly planning meetings
  • Analyse performance across channels to understand where and why content succeeds, and turn those learnings into clear recommendations for what we do next
  • Come up with ideas for social content, and pitch new formats, creative styles and topics for us to test
  • Manage content creators end to end, from identifying the right talent and writing briefs to giving feedback and signing off final content for publication
  • Make content yourself, such as short-form video and carousels, shooting on your phone and editing in tools like CapCut and Canva
  • Be the expert on which threads make good social content, drawing on our in-house tools, past performance and the seasonal calendar to choose what will perform best
  • Activate social campaigns that drive quality traffic to our commercial editorial content, helping it reach and engage the right audiences
  • Keep up with platform updates, trends and what other brands and creators are doing

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • You want to build a career in social media content and strategy
  • You’re passionate about social as a marketing channel, love making content and are full of ideas about what will catch people’s attention
  • You’re proactive. You don’t wait to be told what to do: you spot what needs doing, make recommendations and follow them through
  • You take ownership of your work and drive it forward, from first idea to final results
  • You spend your time on Instagram and TikTok, and you have a nose for what’s shareable and why
  • You’re curious about what the numbers say and comfortable using them to back up your recommendations
  • You’re organised, can keep several things moving at once and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You’re open to feedback, quick to adapt when something isn’t working, and keep delivering when the pressure is on
  • You can see that the witty, intelligent conversations happening on Mumsnet every day are a gold mine for social, and you know how to turn them into content that shows new audiences what they’re missing

You don’t need years of experience. Some experience in social media or content is a bonus, whether that’s a first job, an internship, freelance work or growing your own channels.

Nice to Have

  • Experience growing a social account, your own or someone else’s
  • Familiarity with scheduling content on TikTok, Meta and YouTube
  • Happy to appear on camera
  • An understanding of the Mumsnet audience and what makes our community unique

Benefits

  • Salary: £32,000 to £35,000
  • Hybrid working - 2 days in the London office (Wednesday & Thursday)
  • 10 Weeks Work from Anywhere (over the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays)
  • ChatGPT Pro Account for AI learning
  • Buy More Holiday Scheme - sometimes 25 days just isn't enough
  • Cycle2Work Scheme*
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Mumsnet Workplace Pension Scheme
  • Electric Vehicle Scheme*
  • Leisure & Retail Perks via Perkbox
  • BUPA Private Medical or Dental Cover*
  • Enhanced Parental Leave
  • Monthly Team Social Events
  • Annual Team Bonus Opportunities

Benefits with an asterisk are eligible upon successful completion of probationary period.

About Mumsnet

Who we are

Mumsnet is the UK’s biggest website for parents, and our purpose is to make their lives easier. We’ve got some of the busiest forums in Europe, with users offering each other advice and support 24/7, plus editorial content, reviews and campaigns. We aim to be the UK’s go-to brand for parents, and - for our staff - a great place to work.

Why work for us?

We focus on steady, sustainable growth while putting purpose before profit. We expect great performance, agility and collaboration in every role; cross-team working with talented, clever people is the best part of life at Mumsnet. We embraced flexible and home working a long time before COVID, and we care much more about outputs than hours on the clock. We know that everyone makes mistakes, and we value people who discuss them openly and share how they’ve learned from them.

We don't only want to hire the best people: we want to retain them. If you need some flexibility, let us know and we’ll do our best. We’re committed to diversity and quality (see our policy here) and we think we’re second to none in the all-round support we offer to parents and carers at work (see our parental leave policies here). Working for Mumsnet means never having to pretend you don’t have a family or other commitments, and we promise never to keep you away from a school appointment. We are also proud to be a London Living Wage employer and we have never used unpaid interns.

Pre-COVID, we had a healthy line-up of sandwich lunches, knowledge sessions, choirs, bookclubs, yoga sessions and sports teams, as well as an unhealthy line-up of staff parties at Kentish Town’s excellent pubs and restaurants, and McDonald’s deliveries for the mornings after.

Where we are

We’re based in sunny Kentish Town, where you’re never more than 500 metres away from a sourdough pizza and an elaborately refurbished pub.

Covid and WFH

We’ve continued to embrace flexibility and remote working to the max. You’ll only be required to be in the office one to two days a week (although you can go in more often if you wish).
