POSITION SUMMARY

Stratton Mountain Resort is seeking an experienced Snowmaking Manager to lead one of the most critical operations on the mountain. This role is responsible for the people, planning, infrastructure, and execution behind Stratton’s snowmaking program, with a focus on safe operations, strong snow production, system reliability, and efficient use of resources. 

The Snowmaking Manager leads a large seasonal team in a fast-moving, 24/7 operating environment and works closely with Mountain Operations leadership and other mountain departments to establish terrain priorities and deliver the best possible product for our guests. 

This is a full-time, year-round, benefit eligible position. The annual compensation for this position is $65,000 - $85,000, based on experience.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES: 

  • Lead Stratton’s snowmaking team and oversee daily snowmaking operations, equipment, infrastructure, and maintenance.  

  • Develop and execute snowmaking plans based on weather, terrain priorities, operating goals, and available resources.  

  • Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and develop snowmaking supervisors and team members.  

  • Manage the department’s operating budget, labor, energy use, maintenance expenses, and key performance metrics.  

  • Use weather data, snowmaking technology, system performance, and production data to make timely operating decisions.  

  • Maintain strong safety standards and ensure employees are properly trained in equipment, operating procedures, and required safety practices.  

  • Develop and maintain SOPs and preventative maintenance standards that support system reliability and consistent operations.  

  • Partner with Mountain Operations leadership on snowmaking infrastructure improvements, capital planning, and long-term system needs.  

  • Coordinate closely with Grooming, Terrain Parks, Lift Operations, Ski Patrol, Vehicle Maintenance, and other departments to support mountain readiness.  

  • Provide calm, decisive leadership during changing weather, high-production periods, system disruptions, and other critical operating situations.  

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of progressive snowmaking experience, including leadership or management experience.  

  • Strong technical knowledge of snowmaking equipment, infrastructure, controls, and automated systems.  

  • Experience leading teams in a 24/7 or similarly complex operating environment.  

  • Experience managing labor, scheduling, budgets, and operating expenses.  

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical problem-solving skills.  

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop employees.  

  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.  

  • Project management experience 

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.  

  • Ability to work nights, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and changing schedules during peak snowmaking periods. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
