Job Description

Role Overview

Lead and oversee on-site execution of complex construction, equipment installation, modernization, commissioning, and infrastructure projects to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient project delivery. Manage site operations, contractor activities, project schedules, budgets, safety programs, quality requirements, and customer expectations while ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and operational requirements. Support successful project outcomes through effective planning, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and execution excellence.

This individual serves as the senior site leader and primary customer-facing representative for assigned projects. This role requires extensive experience in field execution, construction management, industrial installations, commissioning activities, and contractor oversight. Working closely with customers, subcontractors, engineering teams, and project leadership, the Site Project Manager provides leadership across all phases of site execution and contributes directly to safety performance, project profitability, schedule achievement, quality results, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities and Duties

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead project execution for large-scale and strategically significant projects.
  • Lead all site activities for Greenfield, modernization, retrofit, revamping, turnkey port crane, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
  • Assume accountability for project safety, quality, schedule, cost performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Define and implement execution strategies aligned with project objectives, contractual requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Drive project execution from site mobilization through commissioning, testing, punch-list completion, and project closeout.
  • Ensure compliance with project scope, technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks affecting safety, schedule, quality, cost, and operational performance.
  • Resolve complex project issues and support effective decision-making throughout project execution.

Site Management

  • Direct and coordinate all site personnel, subcontractors, vendors, equipment suppliers, and commissioning teams.
  • Manage site logistics, workforce planning, resource allocation, and construction sequencing.
  • Establish site operating procedures and ensure adherence to company standards and customer requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Monitor site productivity and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance execution efficiency.
  • Oversee site documentation, permits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture across all site operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety programs, customer requirements, and local regulations.
  • Lead site safety meetings, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Implement corrective actions and communicate lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation throughout all project phases.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Manage project budgets and financial performance.
  • Monitor costs and identify opportunities to improve project efficiency and profitability.
  • Support contract administration, change order management, claims resolution, and scope management activities.
  • Provide forecasting for project costs, resource requirements, and schedule impacts.
  • Collaborate with project controls and finance teams to ensure financial transparency and accountability.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

  • Serve as a trusted partner to customers, internal stakeholders, and leadership teams.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for customers, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead project status meetings and communicate progress, risks, mitigation plans, and performance metrics.
  • Manage customer expectations while maintaining alignment with contractual commitments and project objectives.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and facilitate timely stakeholder decision-making.

Quality & Commissioning

  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensure all construction, installation, and commissioning activities meet quality requirements and engineering standards.
  • Lead punch-list management and drive successful project turnover to customers.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, startup, and operational acceptance activities.
  • Verify completion of project documentation, training requirements, and turnover packages.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through lessons learned and post-project reviews.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Lead cross-functional project teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams including engineers, construction managers, field supervisors, technicians, contractors, and commissioning personnel.
  • Mentor and support the development of project managers, site supervisors, and project team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Provide performance feedback, coaching, and leadership development support.

Travel and Working Conditions

  • Extensive domestic and international travel (up to 75-100%) based on project assignments.
  • Frequent work in industrial, construction, port, energy storage, and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work extended hours and flexible schedules during critical project phases.
  • Must comply with all site safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and work in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.


Required Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  •  8+ years of progressive experience in project management, construction management, site leadership, or operational leadership within industrial, infrastructure, energy, material handling, heavy equipment, or related industries, including significant responsibility for safety, financial performance, stakeholder management, and operational execution of complex site-based projects.
  •  Strong understanding of project management methodologies, risk management principles, stakeholder management, and project controls.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and commissioning processes.
  •  Proven success leading contractors and cross-functional project teams.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project scheduling software, and project management tools.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing Greenfield construction, equipment modernization projects, industrial installations, port crane projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), or comparable capital projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
  • OSHA 10 certification or equivalent safety qualification.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, electrical infrastructure, utility interconnections, and commissioning processes associated with BESS projects.

Experience

  • Experience within port facilities, container terminals, crane systems, automated material handling systems, renewable energy, energy storage, or industrial automation environments.
  • Experience managing projects exceeding $10 million in value.
  • International project execution experience.
