Job Summary:**
ALS Laboratory Namibia is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Shift Chemist to perform analytical testing, ensure quality standards, and contribute to the company's strategic objectives. This role involves operating and maintaining advanced analytical instrumentation within a rotational shift environment.
Job Responsibilities:**
* Perform a variety of chemical analyses on samples using advanced analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC, HPLC, ICP-OES, UV-Vis, AAS) according to established methodologies and standard operating procedures.
* Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
* Interpret and analyze test results, ensuring accuracy and reliability, and reporting findings in a clear and concise manner.
* Implement and adhere to Quality Management (QM) principles and practices, including strict adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS) protocols.
* Conduct internal quality control checks and participate in external proficiency testing programs.
* Identify and report non-conformances, participate in root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
* Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analytical work, calibration data, and quality control activities.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations.
* Collaborate with team members and supervisors to achieve departmental and company Strategic Objectives.
* Provide training and mentorship to junior staff as required.
* Work effectively within a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Job Qualifications:**
* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
* Proven experience operating and maintaining a range of Analytical Instrumentation.
* Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Quality Management (QM) principles and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
* Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and best practices.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
* Ability to interpret complex data and draw sound conclusions.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Commitment to contributing to and achieving Strategic Objectives.
* Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
