Overview

The Senior Translator translates a range of business-related content - presentations, proposals, spreadsheets, market studies, and documents - between Arabic and English, supporting CAA Portas’s consulting work with sports organisations across the region. Working with the latest translation technology, the role combines hands-on translation with quality assurance — maintaining consistency and contributing to glossaries and style guides — and includes team leadership responsibilities, deputising for the Translation Team Leader when needed.

Responsibilities to include:

• Translate texts across multiple formats (presentations, spreadsheets, Word, and PDF) between Arabic and English.
• Assess documents, estimate word counts, and provide accurate delivery timelines; respond to email requests promptly and keep requesters informed.
• Proofread, review, and format translations to ensure high-quality delivery, maintaining consistency across repeated terms and when work is split across the team.
• Build and maintain a CAA Portas glossary of frequently used terms, aligned with clients’ usage across their social media platforms, media, and documents.
• Contribute to a CAA Portas style guide to unify the translation team’s output in line with clients’ language and formatting conventions.
• Format shapes and align graphics to suit Arabic layout, direction, and styling.
• Convert hard-to-edit texts (e.g., PDF or image format) into editable formats to support translation tool processing where necessary.
• Work with dictionaries and language platforms to find accurate translations and increase quality.
• Work between clients and the translation team to integrate feedback on translation processes, writing styles, and terminology.
• Lead and support the translation team in the Team Leader’s absence, including revising, reviewing, and assigning work and presentations.

Requirements

Essential:

• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English, with advanced command of formal and creative Arabic.
• Prior experience within a leading consulting firm, with extensive expertise in PowerPoint presentations and a strong understanding of consulting-style communication and presentation standards.
• Advanced proficiency in CAT tools such as Phrase, SDL Trados or memoQ.
• Demonstrated expertise in machine translation post-editing (MTPE), including light and full post-editing, with the ability to assess machine-translated content, determine the appropriate level of post-editing, and deliver linguistically accurate, contextually appropriate, publication-ready translations.
• Bachelor’s degree in English Language, Linguistics, Translation Studies, or equivalent.
• 4+ years’ experience in translation, reviewing, and localisation, including experience in a business or consulting context.
• Advanced formatting skills in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, including aligning text, graphics, and tables with Arabic direction.
• Strong attention to detail with a clear writing style and impeccable spelling and grammar.
• Ability to grasp new concepts and technical terms quickly.
• Proven ability to manage multiple translation and localization tasks simultaneously, consistently delivering high-quality work under demanding deadlines.
• Good IT skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and manage stakeholder relationships.

Desired:

• Knowledge of business and legal terminology and communication conventions in the Saudi and UAE markets.
• Strong expertise in Arabic localization, with the ability to adapt content to the linguistic, cultural, and professional conventions of Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC.
• Experienced with internal stakeholder relationship management.
