About the role:
As a Senior Subsurface Data Manager, you will take a leading role in managing and developing the subsurface data landscape within a client environment, supporting Geoscience and Exploration teams with high-quality, accessible and reliable data.
Working across well and seismic data, you will manage key activities throughout the data lifecycle, including data receipt, loading, conversion, transfer, quality control and archiving. You will act as an important interface between the Geoscience community and Data Management teams, helping ensure data is managed consistently and effectively across projects and corporate repositories.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring strong subsurface data management expertise alongside the ability to advise stakeholders, establish best practice and maintain high standards of data quality and governance.
This is a fully on-site position based at our client’s office in Aberdeen. Candidates must therefore be able to work on-site in Aberdeen on a full-time basis.
As a Senior Subsurface Data Manager, you will:
- Advise on and lead the development of the subsurface data landscape
- Manage client requirements for Exploration and Geological Well & Seismic data, including data receipt, loading, conversion, transfer, quality control and archiving
- Act as a key interface between Geoscience teams and Data Management functions, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment
- Conduct data quality assessments, apply agreed standards and ensure data consistency and synchronisation across projects and corporate repositories
- Deliver well and seismic data management services supporting E&P applications
- Maintain high-quality corporate subsurface databases and ensure information remains accurate and accessible
- Maintain and regularly update data inventories, applying agreed standards to support consistency and optimisation
- Support effective data lifecycle management and adherence to relevant operator and regulatory obligations
- Provide guidance and expertise to stakeholders on subsurface data management practices, standards and processes
Requirements
- Proven experience managing subsurface data within Exploration & Production (E&P) environments
- Strong working knowledge of SLB Petrel and Studio, including the loading and management of well and seismic data
- Strong understanding of well and seismic data and associated subsurface data workflows
- Good understanding of upstream business operations
- Strong knowledge of data management concepts, standards, practices, tools and technologies
- Experience of data quality management, corporate repositories and data lifecycle management
- Understanding of operator regulatory obligations relating to subsurface data
- Experience with the UK National Data Repository (NDR) and associated data reporting would be advantageous
- Experience with data management tools and technical subsurface applications, such as Techlog, would also be advantageous
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Geoscience, Data Management and wider stakeholder groups
- Ability to work fully on-site at the client office in Aberdeen
