About this Senior Software Engineer - Product Expansion Team role at Alternative Payments
Alternative Payments is building the financial operating system for SMBs, consolidating the disconnected tech stack that holds service-based businesses back. Starting with MSPs, we've spent five years perfecting accounts receivable, and we're now expanding into accounts payable, AI-powered analytics, and beyond. We're at an inflection point: closing the loop on money movement and laying the foundation for a platform that will reshape how service businesses operate financially.
We're growing fast, thinking big, and building a global team that wants to be part of something that lasts. We believe the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, deep collaboration, and a shared obsession with customer impact. If you're energized by real problems, real customers, and real impact, we want to hear from you!
What We’re Looking For
We're seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our mission of revolutionizing payments for service-based companies by building the robust, scalable infrastructure that powers our accounts receivable automation platform.
You’ll join our Product Expansion team, which owns two of our core products: Accounts Payable, where we’re currently building multi-use virtual cards, and Analytics.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on architecting and developing core backend services, design event-driven data pipelines, and ensuring the reliability and performance of systems that process critical financial transactions for our clients.
Working closely with Product and Operations teams, you'll leverage your expertise in Go (or other similar language) and distributed systems to deliver high-quality features rapidly while maintaining the transparency, dependability, and partnership values that define Alternative Payments.
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on how businesses manage their payment processes, contributing to a platform that reduces costs and complexity for companies while working alongside a global, diverse and collaborative team.
This role is available to candidates who are eligible to work in Brazil, fully remote.
What You’ll Do
Build backend services: Develop and maintain core services that handle data processing, transformations, and business logic.
Design event-driven pipelines: Craft idempotent, queue-based workflows (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.) to process messages without duplication.
Write clean, maintainable code: Author services in Go (or a similar language) and SQL (Postgres or equivalent), following clear coding standards and review practices.
Drive quality & reliability: Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; instrument metrics (throughput, latency, error rates) and alerts; rapidly diagnose and resolve issues.
Collaborate & iterate: Partner with Product and Operations to deliver features quickly; pair with teammates to share knowledge and continuously refine our tooling and processes.
What You’ll Bring
Strong in Go (or comparable backend language) and SQL (Postgres or equivalent).
Experience working on payment platforms or with payments/financial transactions.
Comfortable with event buses/queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
Solid testing discipline: unit, integration and end-to-end.
Familiarity with Git workflows, code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.
4–7 years in professional software development, with senior-level responsibilities.
Nice-to-Haves
Data lake or analytics engineering experience (ClickHouse, dbt, Dagster, Spark/Databricks, Snowflake or similar).
Experience working on analytics products.
Frontend experience with TypeScript.
Prior work on financial/data reconciliation.
Hands-on experience integrating with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Netsuite or similar APIs
Understanding of accounting principles (e.g. double-entry).
Observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana).
Basic compliance/security exposure (encryption, audit trails).
Track record of mentoring, leading projects, or driving organizational improvements.
Comfort working in fast-paced, dynamic, and high-impact environments.
