Why Intel Foundry

At Intel Foundry, you will help develop and enable next-generation silicon photonics technologies that power AI, cloud computing, networking, and high-speed communications. As part of a world-class engineering organization, you will work alongside leading scientists and engineers to solve complex reliability challenges, influence technology decisions, and bring innovative photonic technologies from research and development into high-volume manufacturing.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the industry's most advanced Silicon Photonics programs and help deliver reliable, cutting-edge solutions to Intel Foundry customers worldwide.

About the Role

Intel's Silicon Photonics Quality & Reliability team is seeking a Senior Silicon Photonics Reliability Engineer to drive reliability strategy, qualification, and technology development for advanced photonic devices and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).

In this role, you will partner closely with technology development, process integration, design, manufacturing, and quality teams to assess, improve, and certify the reliability of silicon photonics technologies and products. You will play a key role in identifying reliability risks, developing qualification methodologies, resolving complex technical challenges, and ensuring successful transitions from technology development to high-volume manufacturing.

What You’ll Do

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Assess and characterize the intrinsic and extrinsic reliability of photonic devices, photonic integrated circuits (PICs), lasers, and integrated optical products.
  • Develop reliability models and acceleration methodologies through Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and reliability testing.
  • Drive reliability improvements through process, design, and material optimization efforts.
  • Develop and implement new reliability characterization techniques, screening methodologies, and quality controls.
  • Define reliability, qualification, and certification requirements for new silicon photonics technologies and products.
  • Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations using data-driven and model-based problem-solving techniques.
  • Evaluate reliability risks and provide recommendations to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and reliability requirements are integrated throughout the technology development lifecycle.
  • Support new technology introduction and successful transfer into high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Analyze large data sets to identify trends, opportunities, and reliability risks using advanced statistical methods.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to engineering leadership, cross-functional stakeholders, and executive management.
  • Contribute to reliability strategy, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across Intel Foundry's Silicon Photonics organization.

The ideal candidate should exhibit the following behavioral traits:

  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to make sound decisions with incomplete information while appropriately balancing risk and business impact.
  • Ownership and accountability for driving complex technical initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, data-driven approach.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and business organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and execute effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for developing innovative technologies.
  • Adaptability and resilience when navigating ambiguity and evolving business priorities.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering an inclusive team environment.
