The CardioVascular Institute (CVI) Sr. Research Program Manager will serve as the chief administrative leader for Research Operations in the Division of Cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The Sr. Program Manager will work collaboratively with the leadership team, faculty, and staff to develop strategic direction and manage daily operations of the Research Program. The position partners with the Director of Research, Chief of Cardiology, BIDMC Research Administration, individual Principal Investigators, and a small team of Research Program Coordinators and Administrators to optimize research operations, assist in management of research personnel, and develop strategic initiatives including training and career development within the CVI.

As a key partner to the leadership team, the Sr. Research Program Manager will bolster the overarching goals of the CVI Division of Cardiology Research Program, which is a national leader in the field of clinical and translational cardiometabolic research and human physiology. Specific key initiatives that the Program Director will support are: (1) management and oversight of research operations including interdigitation with central grants administration, contractual agreements, and financial oversight; (2) supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new faculty and staff and management of biostatistical and research staff groups; (3) strategy, direction, and programmatic support for academic initiatives to facilitate the continued growth of the research program, including the promotion and expansion of philanthropic and grant base, and coordination of academic programs such as research seminars, pilot grants, and the career mentorship program.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing multiple large and smaller complex projects simultaneously.

  • Works with the leadership team to develop proposals for operational and process improvement projects related (but not limited) to: service excellence, patient safety, clinical compliance, and operations improvement.

  • Ensures appropriate project prioritization and requests for resources. Ensures programs and projects are appropriately managed and delivered on time, within budget, to meet the strategic and operational needs of the department.

  • Develops project work plans including identification of key stakeholders, deliverables, timelines and required resources for initiatives.

  • Designs data collection methods and data analyses, measurement and analytic strategies to monitor the key performance indicators and outcomes of projects over time.

  • Interprets and reports data to a variety of audiences and uses data to support recommendations for business planning decisions, resource requests and during the annual budget planning process which encompasses.

  • Designs communication strategies for project progress. Ensures timely and consistent communication of project priorities, status, timelines, and deliverables to the user community.

  • Creates reports and dashboards to track performance against divisional goals. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3; Indirect Reports: None.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5-8 years of related work experience required, including 3 years of supervisory experience required.

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.

Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

Teamwork: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires periods of close attention to work with out interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required.

Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Health Care Status:  NHCW: No patient contact. - Health Care Worker Status may vary by department.

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Monitor Use, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.

This job requires constant endurance-working up to 3-4 hours without a break, frequent sitting, power grasping using both hands, keyboard use. There may be occasional fine manipulation using both hands. Rarely there may be pushing/pulling using both hands.

 

 

Pay Range:

$95,000.00 USD - $135,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
