Team Overview

You’ll join a collaborative Talent Acquisition team dedicated to supporting CarMax’s growth. In this fast-paced, quality-driven environment, you’ll work closely with recruiters, hiring managers, talent selection, and other key business partners to deliver a best-in-class recruiting experience. From initial intake of roles to extending offers, you’ll be a trusted advisor who will shape the future of CarMax by bringing in talented associates who share our CarMax values.

Role Responsibilities

• Design and implement strategic recruiting plans including proactive sourcing methods to reach talent that is not actively job searching, including networking sites, job boards, specialty search software, and direct outreach.
• Independently manage the hiring strategy, application, and hiring process form posting of requisitions, posting strategy, conducting interviews, to delivering offer recommendations
• Serve as the primary point of contact for candidates and hiring managers (from manager to executive level business partners), ensuring clear communication and a positive experience throughout the hiring process.
• Support Manager and Executive level hiring managers in the hiring strategy for their open hiring needs while building a deep functional expertise of the main business areas supported
• Guide hiring managers through structured interview and selection practices to maintain consistency and fairness.
• Build and maintain talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs, engaging passive candidates effectively.
• Participate in recruiting events such as job fairs, college outreach, and community engagement initiatives to strengthen CarMax’s employer brand (as needed)
• Collaborate with leadership to resolve challenges and recommend actionable solutions that improve recruiting efficiency and outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience within the last 5 years, with proven success in meeting hiring goals.
• Experience supporting recruiting for a variety of roles and demonstrated ability to support senior leadership business partners
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively
• Excellent communication skills, including messaging, phone, email, and in-person interactions
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with candidates and hiring managers
• Proficiency in Applicant Tracking Systems and experience managing candidates through structured workflows.
• Expertise in sourcing and engaging passive candidates through multiple channels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and clarity in all interactions.
• Some Sr. Recruiter roles may require flexibility to work across different time zones

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

• To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
• For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
