About this Senior Recovery Specialist role at Alberta Motor Association

Alberta Motor Association · Hybrid · CA-AB-Calgary-Downtown

RECOVERY IS YOUR expertise. SOLUTIONS ARE YOUR strength.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Recovery Specialist, you're the steady hand behind some of the Bank's most complex and sensitive recovery matters. You understand that every file has a story, and every decision requires a thoughtful balance of risk management, customer care, and sound business judgment.

You don't just manage recovery files, you navigate complexity, uncover solutions, and protect the Bank's interests while helping customers through difficult circumstances. Whether you're administering insurance claims following a property loss, assessing mortgage renewal risk, or managing foreclosure and power of sale proceedings, you bring expertise, professionalism, and confidence to every interaction.

Working closely with borrowers, legal counsel, mortgage insurers, adjusters, realtors, builders, and internal partners, you'll play a critical role in mitigating losses, protecting security interests, and delivering effective resolution strategies from start to finish.

The Team You’ve Been Looking For
As a wholly owned subsidiary of AMA, we share a proud legacy of service and a commitment to doing the right thing for our customers, our communities, and each other. At Bridgewater Bank, you’ll be part of a nimble, forward-thinking organization where your ideas matter, your contributions are valued, and your growth is encouraged. We’re driven to make a positive impact and our close-knit culture values flexibility, innovation, and genuine connection. As part of the Bridgewater team, you’ll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary and flexible benefits
  • Employer-paid retirement savings program
  • Employee-exclusive discounts on travel, insurance, memberships, and more
  • Free travel medical insurance for you and your immediate family
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Flexible work models that make sense for your lifestyle

Who You Are

  • You're analytical, organized, and thrive when managing complex files with multiple moving parts.
  • You bring strong expertise in mortgage recoveries, collections, foreclosure proceedings, and loss mitigation.
  • You're comfortable making difficult decisions while balancing risk, policy requirements, and customer outcomes.
  • You have a keen eye for detail and can confidently review mortgage, legal, title, and insurance documentation.
  • You're a skilled communicator who can navigate sensitive conversations with professionalism, empathy, and firmness.
  • You're resourceful and know how to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners to drive outcomes.
  • You exercise sound judgment and confidently recommend next steps in challenging situations.
  • You remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented when dealing with deadlines, legal matters, and complex customer circumstances.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Administer insurance claims where the Bank's security has been affected by partial or total property loss, ensuring appropriate use and distribution of insurance proceeds.
  • Partner with customers, insurance adjusters, builders, solicitors, and other stakeholders to support property repairs, rebuilds, and claim resolution activities.
  • Review maturing mortgage accounts to assess risk, determine renewal eligibility, and recommend appropriate renewal terms where required.
  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations regarding non-renewal situations while ensuring customers receive clear and timely communications.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of recovery policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect regulatory changes, process improvements, and operational requirements.
  • Manage a portfolio of legal recovery files involving foreclosure and power of sale proceedings from initiation through final resolution.
  • Coordinate legal action with external counsel, negotiate payment arrangements, resolve title issues, and facilitate property sales or transfers to mortgage insurers.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate losses by managing legal costs, protecting collateral, and supporting effective recovery strategies.
  • Complete loss provisioning assessments and provide insight into anticipated recovery outcomes, risks, and potential losses.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Legal Administration, Real Estate, Accounting, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in foreclosure, power of sale, collections, recoveries, or related mortgage servicing functions.
  • Experience working with mortgage insurers, law firms, insurance adjusters, builders, realtors, appraisers, and other recovery-related stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage documentation, title matters, security registration, insurance proceeds administration, and recovery-related legal processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
