Job Description:

The Senior Product Manager, Data Ingestion and Customer Onboarding is responsible for defining the strategy, roadmap, and execution of Vertex's data ingestion and customer onboarding capabilities. This role owns how customer data is collected, transformed, validated, and activated across Vertex products, ensuring customers achieve value quickly and efficiently. Working cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Professional Services, and Partner teams, this role delivers scalable solutions that improve customer adoption, reduce onboarding complexity, and strengthen platform data capabilities.

  • Define and own product vision, strategy, and roadmap for data ingestion and customer onboarding; align priorities with company objectives, customer needs, and platform strategy while balancing strategic investments, customer commitments, and technical debt.
  • Own the end-to-end customer onboarding experience from initial setup through successful product adoption; identify friction points, drive improvements that reduce implementation effort, and define success metrics for adoption, activation, and customer health.
  • Define capabilities for data ingestion, mapping, validation, transformation, monitoring, and governance; understand integration technologies including APIs, connectors, and ETL/ELT processes to deliver scalable, reusable ingestion services and onboarding automation.
  • Translate business requirements into detailed product requirements, user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria; manage and prioritize the product backlog and partner with Engineering through the full development lifecycle, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release planning.
  • Collaborate with Professional Services, Customer Success, and Support teams to continuously improve onboarding outcomes and reduce operational overhead; partner with platform teams to deliver automation and reusable onboarding solutions.
  • Engage directly with customers through interviews, workshops, and strategic discussions; demonstrate product capabilities to customers, prospects, and partners; communicate roadmap updates and product outcomes to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and Engineering teams; build and maintain alignment across Product, Engineering, Design, Customer Success, and Partner organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product management experience in a SaaS, enterprise software, platform, or data-centric environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing product roadmaps; ability to evaluate trade-offs, assess technical constraints, and prioritize across competing business and customer needs.
  • Experience writing detailed product requirements, user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria; hands-on proficiency with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Working knowledge of data integration concepts including APIs, connectors, and ETL/ELT processes; ability to engage credibly with Engineering teams on data ingestion and platform integration topics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to evaluate complex trade-offs and make prioritization decisions grounded in data and customer impact.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to present priorities, roadmap decisions, and product outcomes clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Professional Services, and Product organizations to deliver cross-functional outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and improving customer onboarding workflows and implementation experiences, including customer journey mapping, implementation patterns, and time-to-value optimization.
  • Familiarity with enterprise software ecosystems such as ERP, CRM, eCommerce, procurement, or finance platforms and their integration patterns with data platforms.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and observability concepts; experience defining approaches for handling data exceptions and ensuring ingestion reliability.
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms and modern SaaS architectures; understanding of scalable data platform and service design.
  • Experience supporting customer demonstrations, workshops, and enterprise implementation engagements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
