The Opportunity

The Sr. NPI Engineer is responsible for transitioning complex, proprietary production equipment from R&D development to pilot manufacturing. Operating at the intersection of design, quality, and supply chain, you will ensure manufacturability, establish robust build and test processes, and drive cross-functional collaboration for a seamless New Product Introduction (NPI).

Role and Responsibilities:

Design for Excellence (DfX) & Technical Transfer

• Participate in early-stage design reviews, providing DFM, DFA, DFR, DFT, and DFS recommendations to identify manufacturability, quality, and supply chain risks.
• Work closely with R&D engineers and scientists to translate product requirements into manufacturable designs.
• Support engineering deliverables by completing BOMs, CAD drawings, and sourcing data within the PLM system.
• Generate, review and execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) during pilot manufacturing.

Process & Test Development

• Develop, qualify, and optimize scalable manufacturing and assembly processes to ensure build consistency and quality control.
• Design, build, and validate custom assembly tooling, fixtures, and test stands.
• Develop detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation for production readiness.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers (CMs) and internal teams to prepare operations for product transition.

Pilot Manufacturing & NPI Project Execution

• Lead prototype builds and pilot manufacturing runs, managing NPI schedules, design transfer deliverables, and milestone targets.
• Execute process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) and publish performance reports.
• Utilize PLM and QMS systems (e.g., Arena) to maintain efficient workflow and compliance standards.

Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement

• Lead structured root cause analyses and corrective action implementations for process, tool, or product failures.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, reduce cycle time, and lower build costs.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

• Education: B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline (M.S. preferred).
• Experience: 5+ years of hands-on NPI experience in capital equipment, semiconductor equipment (WFE), optical, or medical device industries.
• Technical Skills:
• Proven experience releasing prototype designs into pilot and full production lifecycles.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills for complex, multi-disciplinary electro-mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrated application of methodical root cause analysis frameworks (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
• Experience utilizing CAD, ERP/MRP, and PLM/QMS software tools.
• Soft Skills: Excellent project management, leadership, and cross-functional communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tools & Software: Proficiency with SolidWorks, NetSuite ERP/MRP, and Arena PLM/QMS.
• Process Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of advanced fabrication, assembly, and functional testing methods.
• Certifications: PMP, PE, Lean, or Six Sigma Black/Green Belt.

• Base salary $160,000 - $175,000
