About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Senior Manager, Policy, Governance and Regulatory Services to lead three important functions within the Division of the Academic Registrar: education policy, portfolio governance and regulatory services.

This is an opportunity to take on a hands on management role where you will lead a small team, provide specialist advice, and contribute directly to the development and implementation of education policies, governance frameworks and regulatory compliance processes.

Working closely with stakeholders across the Education and Students Portfolio, the Office of General Counsel and other University teams, you will help ensure our policies and governance arrangements are effective, contemporary and aligned with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead the development, review and implementation of education, curriculum and student policies
  • drive policy reform and provide advice on policy interpretation and application
  • oversee governance and secretariat support for Education and Students Portfolio committees
  • support the University's compliance with legislation and other external requirements
  • provide advice on higher education regulatory frameworks, including the Higher Education Standards Framework and AQF
  • oversee compliance monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
  • lead and develop a small team, building strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring effective service delivery

About you

You are a diligent, analytical and solutions-focused professional who brings experience in policy development, regulatory compliance, governance or a related field. You are comfortable interpreting complex legislative requirements, translating them into practical policies and processes, and working collaboratively with stakeholders across a large and complex organisation.

You will bring:

  • demonstrated experience in developing, reviewing and implementing policies and procedures
  • ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
  • experience in governance, risk management and regulatory compliance
  • strong analytical skills and the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement
  • experience leading and developing a small team
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports and policy documentation
  • strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities

Experience in higher education, government or another large and complex organisation will be highly regarded

A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience, is required

Sponsorship / work rights for Australia

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
