This is a fully onsite role based in our bioanalytical laboratory at 8700 Quioccasin Road in Richmond, VA. We welcome applicants from all locations within the US. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position, and any relocation costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic experts. Discover Impactful Work:

Provides system analysis and maintenance of new and existing laboratory instrumentation at various sites. Works with staff of various departments and produces requirements and facilitates the validation and qualification for laboratory instrumentation. Troubleshoots, repairs and improves instrumentation laboratory equipment, and interacts with vendors for demonstration of emerging technologies for enhanced throughput of samples. Tests, supports the introduction, and provides ongoing support of new technologies via interaction with the various departments.

A Day in the Life:

Perform unit system Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Remedial Maintenance (RM) and Calibration, as well as validation testing to the department's LC/MS (Liquid Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry) equipment. Experience with Sciex and Thermo Fisher mass spectrometers preferred.

• Prepares detailed system specifications based on user requirements for instrumentation for the purpose of coordinating demonstration units with vendors.

• Develops/supervises instrumentation validation protocols for introduction into

mainstream analysis.

• Prepares system documentation, including requirements document, specification document, test plans, user manuals, and SOPs for instrumentation.

• Oversees installment of new instrumentation. Trains staff and coordinates deployment to operational areas. Troubleshoots and trains oncoming staff in the troubleshooting of existing instrumentation.

• Oversees/supervises junior level staff responsible for the same tasks.

• Discovers and implements ways to increase instrument performance and productivity.

• Evaluates lab support records for compliance with SOPs, reviews for completeness and accuracy and reports findings.

Keys to Success:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years).

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly

related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, relational databases, and

instrumentation operation/ data reduction and troubleshooting

• Knowledge of systems in use at PPD or within the CRO/Pharmaceutical industry

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Strong communication skills

• Attention to detail and ability to multi-task

• Ability to train others

• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Virginia is $100,000.00–$125,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
