About this Senior IT & Security Operations Engineer role at FloatMe
Are you a strong Systems Administrator or IT Operations Specialist looking to take a major step forward in your cybersecurity career? Do you enjoy getting “hands on” and “in the weeds” on Cloud Security, Desktop Security, and Network Security needs?
We are seeking a hands-on (not a paper pusher) Senior IT & Security Operations Engineer who will be reporting directly to our CISO and operating as our front-line “hands on keyboard” for our cloud, infrastructure, hardware, and network security.
This is a true hybrid role (70% Security Engineering / 30% Corporate IT). We need a team player who is excited to manage AWS security and tune SIEM alerts, but is equally willing to roll up their sleeves to set up a new hire's laptop, troubleshoot a conference room, or configure an office printer. If you are looking for a role where you can rapidly expand your cloud and cybersecurity skill set under executive mentorship—without losing your hands-on IT roots—this is the perfect fit.
This opportunity requires full-time, in-office presence at our downtown San Antonio location at least 3 days per week.
What You'll Do
Security & Infrastructure Management (70%)
Endpoint Management: Administer, configure, and maintain our Mobile Device Management (MDM) and device management solutions using Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender.
Cloud Security: Manage and configure security settings within our AWS systems and Cloudflare environments.
Network & Connectivity: Configure, manage, and maintain office networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and company VPNs.
Threat Detection: Manage, configure, and monitor our SIEM and other threat detection systems.
Incident & Event Documentation: Work closely with the CISO to document security events, track incidents, and maintain thorough security and compliance logs.
System Hardening: Act as the technical implementer for security policies and infrastructure improvements outlined by the CISO.
Administer User Access: SSO and SaaS account management including our Email, Messaging, and every other tool used by our staff. We do have SSO and will be connecting it to more and more of the platforms we work with to make this job easier and SOC2 compliant.
SOC2: We are in the middle of accomplishing our SOC2 certification and you will be involved in helping our CISO achieve it.
Corporate IT & Office Support (30%)
Hardware Provisioning: Set up, configure, and deploy new laptops for onboarding employees. Manage the recovery and wiping of laptops for offboarding.
Office IT Support: Act as the primary point of contact for in-office IT requests, including desk setups, monitor configurations, and peripheral troubleshooting.
Hardware Maintenance: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot office printers and other essential office hardware.
Conference Rooms: Configure and maintain A/V equipment and hardware for conference rooms to ensure seamless internal and external meetings.
Who You Are
A driver and an "owner," not a passenger — You take ownership of your area, propose the fix or the plan, and drive it through, doing the work yourself when that's what it takes. You'll have support, but you're comfortable getting into the details alongside the rest of us.
Hands-on and self-driven — You're as comfortable configuring an MDM policy or troubleshooting a network issue as you are documenting a process for the team. You don't wait to be asked before fixing what's broken.
A clear communicator — You can explain a technical issue or a security control in plain language to teammates who aren't in IT.
A builder, not just a caretaker — You're energized by improving the systems and processes you inherit, not just keeping the lights on.
A collaborative teammate — You work closely with engineering, ops, and every other team without becoming the bottleneck.
Genuinely interested in fintech — You're curious about the security and compliance considerations that come with handling people's money.
Who You Are Not
An auditor or “paper pusher” — We need you to not only help us decide what security posture we need, but you will need to help implement that posture yourself. We’re a smaller but very effective team and really need this player to be very hands-on.
A recreational player: — We are looking for someone hungry, competitive, and an impact player who can truly “cover” this area of our company, making us all sleep easier at night knowing that you have our security and infrastructure posture well-covered.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 4–10 years of experience in IT Systems Administration, Network Operations, or IT Support with a strong, demonstrated interest in cybersecurity. (Transitioning military and veterans with IT/Cyber occupational specialties are highly encouraged to apply).
Hardware Security Management Experience: Hands-on experience with MDM, identity/SSO providers (e.g., Okta, Microsoft Intune, Google Workspace, Azure AD), and common SaaS admin consoles. (Extra credit for Microsoft Intune and Defender Experience)
Office Networking and Equipment: Solid understanding of network engineering, hardware configuration, and VPN management. (Extra Credit for experience with securing Remote Worker Devices). Conference Rooms, BYOD hardware, and more will be part of your area of ownership.
Cloud & Web Networking and Security: Foundational experience or strong familiarity with managing cloud security configurations on any cloud platform.
SIEM/Detection: Exposure to or experience with SIEM and threat detection platforms.
The "No Task is Too Small" Mentality: You must be perfectly comfortable pivoting from tuning cloud security rules to setting up a physical desk or fixing a printer.
Communication: Excellent written skills for documenting security incidents, network diagrams, and IT procedures.
Bonus Points
Microsoft MDM: Working knowledge of the use of Microsoft Intune, Defender, and related tools for managing staff devices both on Windows and Mac
AWS and Cloudflare: Working knowledge of AWS and Cloudflare infrastructure security.
SOC2: Experience supporting security and compliance programs (SOC 2 or similar) is a strong plus, especially at SOC2 Level II
FinTech: Experience in a fintech, banking, or other regulated environment
Certifications: IT or security certifications (CompTIA Security+, Google IT Support, ITIL, or similar)
Scripting or automation: Experience with Python, Bash, Powershell, or similar for IT process automation
Startup: Prior experience at a startup or fast-growing company, comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities
Why Join Us?
Direct Mentorship: Work directly under an experienced CISO and get hands-on experience building out a commercial security infrastructure.
Career Growth: This is a resume-building role designed to transition a strong IT professional into a dedicated Security Engineering track.
A High Performance Peer-Group: Our team is composed of top-grade players who keep a high “pace of play”, set and accomplish big goals, and work collaboratively with a mission-first, team-second, and self-last mindset. Join a winning team.
