Senior Environmental Health & Safety Consultant

Industrial Hygiene – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & Life Sciences

Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Consultant specializing in industrial hygiene for our Raleigh-based Advisory Services team.

As a Senior EHS Consultant, you will be the trusted advisor clients turn to when it matters most. You will guide organizations through evolving EHS regulations and best practices, helping them build safer workplaces, reduce risk, and operate more sustainably.

You will dig into data to uncover insights that drive measurable improvements in safety performance, and you will stay ahead of regulatory changes so your clients always do too. Beyond advising, you will take the lead on designing and delivering industrial hygiene projects, and you will mentor fellow EHS Consultants, helping grow the skills and expertise of the team around you.

If you are driven, curious, and want your work to protect people and strengthen businesses, this is a role where you can make a real impact.

Triumvirate provides leading institutions in the higher education, life sciences, healthcare, and industrial sectors with diverse services and advice to assist them with compliance management. At Triumvirate, we strive to WOW both our employees and our customers. Our unique culture fosters growth, development, education, and creativity.

This position reports to a Regional EHS Director. This role is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing clients onsite.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Evaluate novel compounds and well-evaluated hazards for occupational exposure risks, applying the occupational exposure banding (OEB) process to classify hazard levels and determine appropriate controls.
  • Develop and implement industrial hygiene sampling plans autonomously, selecting appropriate methodologies (NIOSH, OSHA, ACGIH) based on direct observation of pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences processes.
  • Analyze sampling data and independently make recommendations for engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment based on findings.
  • Measure occupational and environmental hazards, such as noise and ergonomics, using calibrated scientific equipment and/or collecting samples of dust, vapors, or gases according to defined operating procedures.
  • Assess the effectiveness of engineering control systems, including fume hoods, containment enclosures, and local exhaust ventilation systems, in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections evaluating the use of personal protective equipment, such as respirators, protective eyewear, and other required PPE appropriate to pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Identify potential physical and health hazards, such as toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures, such as adjustments to ventilation systems.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries, identifying root causes and recommending remedial actions.
  • Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace safety issues, recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development of occupational health and safety systems, including drafting or updating policies, procedures, and manuals specific to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
  • Facilitate and document Job Hazard Analyses, evaluating risk and prioritizing Industrial Hygiene Assessments accordingly.

Basic Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on industrial hygiene experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with making recommendations on appropriate controls required to reduce exposure potential in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute industrial hygiene sampling plans independently, with the confidence to make autonomous recommendations based on direct process observation.
  • Experience managing ergonomics programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, or a related scientific field.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience as a professional advisor or consultant to third-party clients.
  • Familiarity with cGMP environments and pharmaceutical manufacturing quality standards.
  • Completed two or more industry-recognized trainings (OSHA 10 or 30, ABSA, HAZWOPER, DOT/IATA HAZMAT Transportation).
  • Active membership in at least one national professional safety organization, including local chapters.
