GE Aerospace · Onsite · Grand Rapids

Job Description Summary

The Civil Platforms team is looking for a Senior Engineer – Project Management to oversee the GE Aerospace Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) products for a major program. You will lead day-to-day engineering project execution for the major program Common Core System (CCS) projects. That role covers oversight of hardware refresh and sustainment of the GPM300c, and other LRUs in the system.

In this role, you will own the integrated plan, schedule, cost, risk, and quality for these projects. You will coordinate a cross-functional Integrated Project Team (IPT) and keep customer and internal stakeholders aligned. You will run the work with the FLIGHT DECK operating model and build deep expertise in our Civil Computing System (CCS) products, which prepares you for broader leadership roles.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of the CCS extension projects from contract award through design, verification, certification, and production transition.
  • Build and maintain the integrated master schedule for both projects. Manage the critical path, dependencies across product lines (GPM, CCR/FOX, ARS/ACS, PCM, and systems integration), and the interfaces with suppliers and partner sites.
  • Track project cost and performance using Earned Value Management (EVM). Report CPI/SPI and variances, support estimate-at-completion (EAC) updates, and drive recovery actions with Technical Leads.
  • Maintain the project risk and opportunity register, the assumptions, and the change-request log. Identify obsolescence and supply-chain risks early and work them to closure.
  • Work with Systems and Technical Leads to set and track KPIs, and run daily management and problem solving through FLIGHT DECK (tier boards, Kaizen, and standard work).
  • Support the EPM on proposals, cost walks, bid reviews, and Non-Advocate Reviews (NARs) for follow-on work, including options for future contract years.
  • Serve as a key engineering point of contact for customers on the IMA projects. Prepare status reports, metrics, and review materials for customer meetings, program reviews, and leadership.
  • Coordinate across global, cross-functional teams (program management, systems, software, hardware, safety, certification, supply chain, and operations) to make sure deliverables meet requirements and are on time.
  • Keep project documentation current and make sure stakeholders always know where things stand.
  • Travel to customer, supplier, and partner sites as needed (approximately 10%).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering or engineering project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling, cost tracking, and risk management; exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Basic knowledge of avionics development processes and standards (e.g., SAE ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160).
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work and deliver against scope, budget, schedule, and quality commitments.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience on Boeing 787 or other commercial aircraft avionics programs, especially IMA, Common Core System, or network/switch products.
  • Experience managing hardware refresh, obsolescence, or sustainment projects.
  • Experience with Deltek Open Plan, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling and financial management tools.
  • Project management certification (PMP, CAPM, or equivalent), or actively working toward one.
  • Exposure to proposal development, estimating, or bid and NAR reviews.
  • Experience with lean methodologies; FLIGHT DECK experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of GE Aerospace Avionics engineering processes and business standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative in a process-driven environment.

The base pay range for this position is $130,000.00 - $173,000.00 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
