Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring operational EHS at the site and actively supports the implementation of EHS regulations and corporate requirements at the site level through various projects.

This position is also responsible for compliance with environmental regulations and emergency measures at the site and supports the site's operations and warehouse with fire protection and corresponding emergency planning. The EHS Sr. Specialist is the main point of contact for chemical accident and fire prevention at the site level within the framework of various projects.

The EHS Sr. Specialist works closely with all departments, by creating risk assessments, storage and preservation concepts, and training staff in safe behaviour.

Main tasks:

  • You support the departments in the implementation of EHS guidelines based on corporate requirements as well as national and local Swiss regulations.
  • You support and advise departments and functional managers regarding EHS guidelines, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • You monitor and ensure the effectiveness of EHS standards on site by conducting regular inspections.
  • You take on the management of operational occupational hygiene and coordinate monitoring campaigns with external service providers.
  • You create a prevention program and conduct EHS training, advertising, and communication to improve employees' awareness and competence in the EHS area.
  • You ensure the introduction and targeted training of new tools - especially digital tools - that are to be used by employees at the site.
  • You lead the Safety Committee at the site, which is composed of representatives from various departments.
  • You will work closely with the energy team at the site to drive energy-saving projects forward.
  • Together with FM, you will develop and maintain an effective training plan for contractors.
  • You prepare exercises and ensure the effectiveness of emergency measures.
  • You support and advise the warehouse in creating an appropriate storage concept.
  • You take over the management of the first aid organization on site and train staff in firefighting and emergency measures.
  • You organize and lead the emergency response team (evacuations)
  • Together with facility management, you support the maintenance, inspection, and documentation of safety equipment on site, in particular
  • Sprinkler system
  • First aid equipment
  • Fire alarm system
  • You participate in the annual review of risk management and the claims insurance advisor.
  • You conduct campaigns for fire and emergency prevention.
  • You are part of the on-site emergency team.
  • No travel requirements

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field, with additional training in Occupational Safety, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Environment, Health & Safety (EHS).
  • Strong knowledge of local occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Experience in the chemical and/or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in occupational/industrial hygiene.
  • Knowledge of biological hazards and biosafety is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive EHS initiatives, proactively engage relevant stakeholders, and foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
  • Applies a practical and solution-focused mindset to support business objectives while consistently upholding regulatory and company standards.
  • Acts as a trusted EHS advisor and primary point of contact, providing timely, practical, and effective guidance on EHS-related questions and challenges.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, both vertically and cross-functionally.
  • Strong training, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple stakeholders and competing demands.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in German with good English language skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, take ownership, and achieve goals within demanding timelines.
