The Senior Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for establishing and leading Lumentum’s global EHS strategy, policies, processes, and procedures. This role ensures that all manufacturing sites operate in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and consistently achieve Lumentum’s EHS objectives and performance standards.

The Senior Director partners with site leadership, Operations, Facilities, Engineering, Human Resources, Legal, and other corporate functions to reduce risk, protect employees and the environment, and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and govern Lumentum’s global EHS policies, standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Establish global EHS objectives, goals, metrics, and improvement priorities aligned with business and operational requirements.
  • Ensure manufacturing sites implement and comply with corporate EHS requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide direction, support, and oversight to site EHS leaders and management teams.
  • Monitor site performance through dashboards, reviews, audits, and management reporting; identify trends and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Lead the investigation of significant incidents, near misses, and environmental events, ensuring root causes are addressed and lessons learned are shared across sites.
  • Support sites in reducing workplace injuries, environmental impacts, hazardous exposures, operational risks, and regulatory non-compliance.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory inspections, notices, and enforcement matters in partnership with Legal and site leadership.
  • Establish minimum EHS requirements for new facilities, expansions, equipment, processes, and acquisitions.
  • Promote consistent employee training, awareness, engagement, and accountability for EHS performance.
  • Provide regular EHS performance updates and risk assessments to executive management.
  • Lead the development and execution of multi-year EHS improvement plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish appropriate governance, escalation, and accountability when sites are not meeting EHS objectives or compliance requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 or more years of progressive EHS experience, including significant experience supporting manufacturing or industrial operations.
  • Experience leading EHS programs across multiple sites, regions, or countries.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable environmental, occupational health, and workplace safety laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing global EHS policies, standards, management systems, and governance processes.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, compliance reviews, and corrective-action programs.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
  • Experience in the semiconductor, photonics, electronics, or other high-technology manufacturing industries.
  • Experience implementing or managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Experience leading EHS programs during facility expansions, acquisitions, integrations, or significant operational change.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to Lumentum’s global operations.
