The Role

We're looking for a dependable, detail-oriented and highly motivated Senior Bookkeeper to join our finance team on a part-time basis. You will own our day-to-day bookkeeping and keep our ledgers in excellent shape. You'll also be the go-to person for accounts payable and receivable, working independently but with support from the wider team when you need it. Reporting directly to the CFO and working in close cooperation with our Finance Manager, the role is offered at 50% of full-time hours (equivalent to two and a half days per week).

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger: Keeping our Xero ledgers clean and up to date, posting journals including timely and accurate recording of accruals and prepayments, helping to maintain tidy, audit-ready financial records appropriate to an FCA-regulated business.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Own complex bank and platform reconciliations across all group entities (handling high transaction volumes, clearing accounts, and other adjustments).
  • Accounts Receivable and Revenue Accruals: Manage accounts receivable, raise client invoices, monitor receipts, and follow up on overdue balances. Assist in preparing revenue accruals.
  • Card & Expense Management: Manage company credit card transactions, employee expense claims and the associated reconciliations.
  • Accounts Payable & Payment Runs: Support Accounts payable and payment processes end to end, ensuring suppliers and vendors are paid accurately and on time.
  • Client Money & Platform Reconciliations: Support the Operations team with client money reconciliations in line with FCA requirements, investigating and resolving breaks promptly and maintaining a clear audit trail.
  • Month-End Close: Take an active part in the month-end closing process and the monthly reporting pack to management, including intra-group reconciliations.
  • Audit Support: Support statutory audit requirements, preparing working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Local Reporting: Contribute to local reporting requirements, VAT and GST filings.

Who You Are?

  • Experience: 5+ years (ideally 6-8) in bookkeeping or a similar hands-on finance role, preferably with experience in a SME scale-up Fintech. AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification or equivalent preferable.
  • Regulated Environment: Exposure to FCA-regulated or client-money environments and platform/scheme reconciliations is an advantage.
  • Core Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of bank reconciliations, invoice processing and payment procedures, plus credit card transaction management and reconciliations.
  • Systems: Strong Xero experience (essential), ideally across a multi-entity group.
  • Excel: Strong Excel skills and genuine comfort working with financial data. Comfort using AI tools to work more efficiently is a plus.
  • Statutory Knowledge: A solid understanding of UK statutory requirements and reporting. Experience with Jersey entities (including GST and local filing requirements) is a significant advantage.
  • Meticulously Organised: Detail-oriented with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines without dropping the ball.
  • Ownership & Autonomy: A strong sense of ownership, able to work independently while working closely with the CFO and Finance Manager.

What We Offer

  • A supportive, close-knit team and a role with real ownership.
  • The stability of an established, FCA-regulated business with startup energy.
  • Competitive Salary: £22,500-£25,000 (£45,000-£50,000 full-time equivalent), dependent on experience + performance bonus + stock options.
  • Flexible Commitment: A genuinely part-time role at 50% of full-time hours, with flexibility on how your days are arranged. There is scope to increase to a higher percentage over time, should that be of mutual interest.
  • Growth Potential: Reporting to the CFO within a growing finance function, with full visibility of group finance and scope to take on broader responsibility as the business scales.
  • Working Setup: Hybrid working policy and Work-From-Anywhere policy.
  • Benefits: Private health insurance, salary sacrifice pension contribution, generous annual leave (pro-rated), Cycle to Work scheme and professional development support.

Practical Details

  • You must have a Right to work in the UK.
  • Start date: ASAP.
  • Hiring Process: At Bondsmith, we believe in a straightforward and effective hiring process. Professional references will be required.
