Harrison Street is seeking to hire a Senior Associate within its Portfolio Management group. This role is designed for a portfolio management professional who can translate portfolio performance, strategy, and market context into clear, compelling investor-facing narratives. The ideal candidate will combine strong financial acumen with exceptional writing, presentation, and relationship-oriented communication skills, helping the team explain the portfolio story to investors, consultants, and internal stakeholders while still supporting the analytical rigor required of the Portfolio Management function.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a strong command of portfolio-level performance, strategy, positioning, and key value drivers in order to clearly articulate the core fund story to internal stakeholders and external investors.
- Assist in preparing investor-facing materials, quarterly and annual reporting, meeting briefings, and presentation content; work closely with Investor Relations, Investor Services, and Marketing to ensure messaging is tailored, timely, and aligned with firm strategy.
- Draft and synthesize written commentary on portfolio performance, capital activity, investment themes, risks, opportunities, and market context for investor updates, due diligence responses, and internal reporting.
- Attend and document investor meetings and calls when appropriate, capturing key takeaways, questions, follow-up items, and messaging themes that can inform future investor communications.
- Coordinate with Investor Services Group, Accounting, and Tax to respond to investor requests, due diligence questions, RFPs, DDQs, and other materials requiring clear explanation of portfolio strategy and performance.
- Maintain portfolio construction models and investment committee presentation materials, with an emphasis on clear storyline, executive-ready takeaways, and investor-relevant framing.
- Monitor fund liquidity and facilitate investor capital calls and distributions, including drafting or coordinating explanatory context for investor communications as needed.
- Work closely with Acquisitions, Asset Management, Accounting, and Tax to incorporate new investments into the funds and monitor ongoing asset-level performance.
- Participate in the annual business planning process and oversee the quarterly valuation process, helping translate resulting outputs into concise portfolio narratives and performance insights.
- Analyze sector, strategy, partner, and asset-level performance to identify key trends, drivers, opportunities, and threats; communicate findings in a clear, concise, and audience-appropriate manner.
- Create and maintain portfolio financial projection models to calculate and project fund-level cash flows and returns, while ensuring outputs can be clearly explained to senior leadership and investors.
- Assist in the establishment of fund- and asset-level KPIs and track performance against those measures.
- Utilize third-party applications such as Yardi, iLevel, Chatham, Argus, and related systems for data collection, reporting, and analysis.
- Contribute to strategic projects and platform initiatives that enhance client service delivery, investor transparency, reporting quality, and long-term growth of the platform.
- Assist the Portfolio Management team’s efforts in implementing firmwide data platforms.
