Key Responsibilities

  • Review, interpret, and respond to complex records requests; determine disclosure, partial disclosure, or denial using independent judgment and applicable Wisconsin statutes, case law, victim rights requirements, and department procedures.

  • Prepare denials, correspondence, invoices, fee estimates, certifications, and other documentation on behalf of the Legal Custodian of Records.

Body-Worn Camera and Redaction Duties

  • Manage requests and records within the AXON system, including body-worn camera video, audio, images, retention categories, community requests, and related policies and procedures.
  • Thoroughly review audiovisual footage and identify information requiring protection or redaction.
  • Use redaction tools to blur, obscure, mute, or otherwise remove personally identifying, private, sensitive, or legally protected information.
  • Protect the privacy, identity, and safety of victims and other individuals; prevent disclosure that could compromise constitutional privacy rights, ongoing investigations, prosecutions, or public safety.
  • Ensure compliance with internal body-worn camera policies and all applicable legal and records-retention requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Work Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, proofreading, and written communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and evaluate complex and lengthy records requests; prioritize a high-volume workload; make sound decisions with minimal direction; and maintain discretion and professionalism.
