Position Overview

The Senior Accountant, Delegated Program Finance Business Partner supports delegated authority and program business within a Property & Casualty insurance environment. Reporting to the Director, Delegated Program Finance Business Partner, this position supports an assigned segment of the delegated program portfolio. The role executes defined Finance activities, including bordereaux operational coordination, controls, reconciliations, settlement monitoring, forecasting support, and exception management for assigned programs.

The role operates within an increasingly automated delegated operating model for bordereaux tracking and ingestion, journal entries, reconciliations, cash application, balance settlement, controls, and reporting. Primary responsibilities include reviewing automated outputs, executing and documenting controls, coordinating cross-functional issues, performing financial analysis, and resolving or escalating exceptions. The role partners with Delegated Underwriting, Claims Operations, Technology, Actuarial, and Data teams in accordance with defined functional ownership and handoffs.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Reporting, Accounting & Analysis

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, accounting, settlement, and close processes for assigned delegated programs, leveraging automated solutions wherever possible.

  • Review automated delegated program bordereaux accounting and reporting outputs, prepare journal entries as needed, review reinsurance cessions, execute defined controls, investigate material exceptions, and coordinate resolution with Finance, Operations, Reinsurance, and Technology stakeholders.

  • Prepare GWP forecasts for assigned delegated programs in accordance with Director-established methodologies and timelines; maintain supporting assumptions and documentation; analyze actual-to-forecast results; and escalate material variances, risks, opportunities, and required forecast changes.

  • Maintain and review program-level reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, account analyses, aging, settlement positions, and related financial reporting to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of exceptions.

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of Finance-owned data, accounting outputs, reporting, and supporting documentation.

  • Prepare and maintain workpapers supporting financial reporting, regulatory filings, management reporting, audits, and other Finance requirements.

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support program performance monitoring, decision-making, and issue resolution.

Governance, Financial Oversight & Compliance

  • Execute and monitor assigned-program financial reporting, reconciliations, settlements, bordereaux controls, and exception-management activities to support accurate and timely financial results.

  • Execute and document delegated program controls in accordance with the control and governance framework, monitor compliance, and escalate identified deficiencies or exceptions.

  • Coordinate resolution and escalation of material financial, bordereaux, data quality, and operational issues with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support audits, maintain assigned procedures and supporting documentation, and perform Finance readiness activities for new or evolving delegated programs.

Process Optimization & Automation

  • Partner with the Director and responsible functional teams to test and improve automation for bordereaux tracking, ingestion monitoring, journal entries, reconciliations, cash application, balance settlement, controls, and reporting; review automated outputs and escalate recurring exceptions or control concerns.

  • Recommend enhancements to bordereaux files, tracking tools, data templates, validation rules, issue workflows, and reporting requirements to improve timeliness, data quality, and reduce manual intervention.

  • Participate in the testing, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives supporting delegated programs.

Business Partnership & Communication

  • Serve as the day-to-day Finance and bordereaux coordination contact for assigned delegated programs, operating within defined handoffs and directing underwriting decisions, claims evaluation, actuarial analysis, enterprise data matters, and technical remediation to the responsible functional owners.

  • Build effective working relationships with MGAs, carriers, TPAs, Claims Operations, Delegated Underwriting, Technology, Actuarial, Data, and other internal partners.

  • Provide concise updates on financial reporting, reconciliations, settlements, bordereaux receipt status, open issues, aging, remediation, and required actions.

  • Escalate material financial, control, bordereaux, or settlement risks promptly to the Director.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Property & Casualty insurance, delegated authority, program business, premium accounting, claims accounting, bordereaux processing, or related Finance operations.

  • Experience supporting financial reporting, accounting close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, cash and settlement processes, internal controls, and exception management.

  • Demonstrated understanding of delegated authority operations, including premium, claims, and exposure bordereaux structures, contractual reporting requirements, and program business operations.

  • Demonstrated analytical, reconciliation, documentation, problem-solving, and issue-management skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with general ledger, insurance administration, reconciliation, reporting, or data analytics platforms.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across Finance, Underwriting, Claims Operations, Actuarial, Technology, Data, and external business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification.

  • Experience operating within or supporting highly automated financial and operational processes.

  • Familiarity with premium accounting, claims accounting, loss reserving concepts, and program bordereaux processes.
