SECONDARY IGCSE ART & DT TEACHER


Purpose of Role


Tenby Setia Ecohill is keen to employ an enthusiastic and committed IGCSE Art and Design & Technology Teacher. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, creative and challenging lessons that develop students’ artistic, technical and practical skills, encouraging independent thinking and creative expression.


The successful candidate will plan and deliver the Art and Design & Technology curriculum for Years 7–11, with a strong focus on preparing students for IGCSE. They will guide students in developing high-quality coursework and portfolios, applying appropriate assessment criteria, monitoring progress and providing effective feedback to support strong academic outcomes.


The successful candidate will also contribute to the wider school life through exhibitions, displays, enrichment activities and opportunities that celebrate students’ creative achievements.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

● To oversee students’ work within Art and ensure that learning experiences offered to students are appropriate and relevant to their needs.

● To continually review and develop the range of learning experiences offered to students.

● To keep informed of curriculum developments relevant to the subject.

● To contribute to detailed schemes of work in line with national requirements and school policy.

● To ensure that students’ work is regularly assessed and progress monitored, and that accurate records of progress are kept.

● To contribute to devising and implementing strategies for celebrating pupil achievement, e.g. regular display of work.

● To ensure that profiles and progress reports are written on all students, by published deadlines, and that these conform to school policy.

● To be willing to participate in the implementation of cross-curricular links within the department.

● To assist where necessary, the Head of Faculty in supporting public and internal examinations.

● To liaise with the appropriate tutor and/or Head of School/Head of Department, to ensure that the educational needs of all students are met.


Form Tutor

As a Form Tutor, the candidate plays a pivotal role in supporting the academic, personal, and social development of students. Acting as the first point of contact for students and parents, the Form Tutor fosters a positive classroom culture, promotes student wellbeing, and ensures that pupils are fully engaged in school life.


Key Responsibilities


● Build positive and supportive relationships with students, creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful form environment.

● Monitor and support students' academic progress, attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and overall wellbeing.

● Deliver the tutor programme, including assemblies, PSHE, personal development activities, wellbeing initiatives, life competencies and administrative tasks.

● Identify and respond appropriately to pastoral concerns, referring students to relevant support services when required.

● Maintain regular communication with parents and carers regarding student progress, welfare, and achievement.

● Work collaboratively with teachers, Deans, safeguarding staff, Deputy Head (pastoral) and other stakeholders to support students' holistic development.

● Monitor student attendance and punctuality, following up on concerns in line with school procedures.

● Support students during key transition points and contribute to the development of positive attitudes, resilience, and independence.

● Celebrate student achievements and encourage participation in the wider life of the school, including enrichment and co-curricular activities.

● Maintain accurate records and complete administrative duties associated with the tutor role.

● Uphold and promote the school's values, safeguarding responsibilities, and commitment to student welfare.


Safeguarding

The candidate is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and must adhere to all school safeguarding policies and procedures, reporting any concerns promptly through the appropriate channels.


Professional Support

● To work collaboratively in the delivery of Art in order to facilitate the effective development of the subject throughout the school.

● To maintain a disciplined learning environment.

● To liaise with the tutors and/or Head of School/Year Leader over students causing concern.

● To work with Head of Faculty to ensure that newly qualified teachers, student teachers and new staff are given appropriate advice and support.

● To participate in opportunities, to aid your professional development. Such opportunities will reflect the school’s approach to performance management and include strategies for extending professional experiences, in consultation with the Head of Faculty.

● To ensure that appropriate work is set for cover staff.

● To contribute as necessary to the preparation of the Expressive Arts Faculty Handbook.


Communications

● To attend appropriate meetings where relevant and to provide feedback to team members.

● To attend teaching team meetings and contribute to discussions.

● To contribute to effective liaison with institutions outside the school, including primary schools and post-16 institutions organised by the department/faculty.

● To liaise with parents, as and when appropriate.

 design and construct lesson plan, long-term plan and curriculum overview for all years 7-11

 instruct students in knowledge and usage of art skills  test and grade students of all year groups

 maintain inventory of classroom learning and teaching materials

 prepare students’ reports as per the grade level

 coordinate art exhibitions to showcase students’ artworks

 Commitment to professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• A recognised teaching qualification and degree in Art, Design, Design & Technology or a related subject.

• Experience teaching Art and/or Design & Technology at secondary level, preferably with IGCSE/Cambridge curriculum experience.

• Strong knowledge of IGCSE Art & Design and/or Design & Technology curriculum, assessment requirements and coursework/portfolio development.

• Proven ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons that support different abilities and encourage creativity, independent thinking and problem-solving.

• Experience in assessing and monitoring student progress and providing constructive feedback to improve outcomes.

• Good classroom management and the ability to create a positive, inclusive and purposeful learning environment.

• Ability to organise art/design exhibitions, displays and enrichment activities to showcase student work.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents.

• Commitment to continuous professional development and contributing positively to the wider life of the school.
