About this Scrum Master - Hardware Product Manager role at ON.energy
ON.energy is setting the standard for large load interconnection. ON’s patented AI UPS™ is a medium-voltage UPS that serves as a firewall, protecting the data center from the grid, and the grid from the data center. With multiple gigawatts currently under construction, we are enabling grid-safe data centers.
ON.energy is seeking a Scrum Master to support our Product and Program Management organization. This role drives agile execution across product and program teams, owns the intake of requests from across the business into the product and program backlogs, safeguards the integrity of agile practices among product managers, program managers, and their delivery teams, and partners with leadership to keep roadmaps, program milestones, and sprint priorities aligned with shifting business needs. The ideal candidate is equal parts facilitator, process steward, and cross-functional coordinator who can operate effectively without direct authority over the people they coach.
Key Responsibilities
Intake and Backlog Ownership
- Serve as the single point of accountability for requests raised into the Product and Program Management organization — including engineering, operations, sales, field service, partners, and customers.
- Triage, categorize, and ensure every incoming request is accurately mapped to the appropriate product backlog item, program work item, or roadmap epic, maintaining clear and auditable traceability between them.
- Maintain data integrity within Azure DevOps, ensuring work items are consistently structured (epics, features, stories), properly linked, and free of duplicates or orphaned requests.
- Track requests through to resolution and communicate status back to the originating stakeholders.
Agile Process Stewardship
- Ensure product managers, program managers, and team leads consistently and correctly apply agile and Scrum practices.
- Coach product owners on backlog refinement, user story writing, and acceptance criteria; coach program managers on integrating agile delivery with program milestones and stage-gate reviews.
- Facilitate core Scrum events (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives) as well as cross-team events such as backlog refinement, release planning, and quarterly or PI planning, so they deliver value rather than overhead.
- Define, monitor, and report on agile health and delivery metrics such as velocity, cycle time, throughput, predictability, and backlog hygiene to surface process gaps early.
Roadmap and Portfolio Prioritization
- Partner closely with product and program leadership to continuously evaluate and reprioritize backlogs as customer needs, market conditions, and business priorities change.
- Facilitate transparent trade-off discussions when priorities conflict across products or programs, balancing urgency, team capacity, customer commitments, and business value.
- Translate roadmap and portfolio decisions into clear, actionable adjustments in team sprints and backlogs.
- Act as a neutral coordinator across product and program managers to keep the organization aligned and focused on the highest-value work.
Program Delivery Coordination
- Identify, track, and help resolve cross-team dependencies between product, hardware, software, controls, and operations teams.
- Support program managers in maintaining release plans, milestone schedules, and RAID (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) logs.
- Provide clear, consistent status reporting that connects sprint-level progress to program milestones and roadmap commitments.
General Scrum Master Duties
- Remove impediments and shield teams from disruption so members can focus on delivery.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
- Champion transparency through clear, up-to-date dashboards and reporting for teams and leadership.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Project Manager, or in a similar role, ideally supporting product management or a program/project management office (PMO).
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience managing backlogs, work item hierarchies, and workflows in Azure DevOps (ADO).
- Strong working knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and broader agile frameworks, including experience coordinating multiple teams.
- Solid understanding of the product lifecycle and program management fundamentals — roadmapping, release planning, milestone tracking, and dependency management.
- Enough technical understanding of ON.energy’s products and systems to triage requests, scope and prioritize work, and communicate credibly with engineers. The role does not require hands-on engineering or software development.
- Proven ability to coach and influence managers and peers without direct authority.
- Excellent organizational, facilitation, and communication skills, including presenting status to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM, PSM) or equivalent agile certification; SAFe (SSM, SPC), CSPO, or PMP certification a plus.
- Experience with scaled agile frameworks (e.g., SAFe) and PI planning.
- Experience in a technical or engineering environment delivering products that span software, hardware, and industrial systems.
- Familiarity with reporting and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI) for tracking delivery and portfolio metrics.
- Exposure to energy management systems, battery energy storage, power electronics, or industrial control environments (e.g., SCADA, PLCs) is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is a strong plus.
